Commons_Helper Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Seems many firewalls drop UDP NAT states after 60 seconds of no activity and I see a lot of UDP packets coming after that 60 second timeout, which means my firewall, which follow convention, is dropping them and flooding my logs. Does anyone know an optimal state timeout based on how UPD is use with uTorrent? I'm assuming it's not 60 seconds. It's also possible this is from other clients that don't implement uTP very well.
Kitsoran Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Back when I had a dick router I used 120/90 TCP/UDP. I just looked at the BitTorrent protocol BEP, it specifies keepalives are generally sent once every two minutes. I suggest trying 130-140 and seeing what happens.
Commons_Helper Posted May 17, 2014 Author Report Posted May 17, 2014 I found out the issue. Another generic BT client on my network, not uTorrent or official BT, mishandles DHT and randomizes ports. Choosing a random port isn't the issue, unless it's constantly rotating and changing ports. Once your IP and port gets into the DHT, it can take days for it to drop out. If you constantly randomize ports, you'll "pollute" the DHT. Again, this is not a uTorrent or BT issue, but I figured I'd ask on these forums since there are many knowledgeable people here.
