Blocked by Group policy

Dazed confused

Recommended Posts

Hi - very frustrated after hours of trying.

I am back on 3.2.3 build 28705 and that works if a little slow at times.

Every time I try to update I get one of two problems.

1.uTorrent installs & works fine but magnet links just wont work! {Firefox, Opera, Ice Dragon {a version of Chrome by Comodo}}

I have checked the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\magnet\shell\open\command\ and the value "C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe" "%1" is there

2. Upgrade or fresh install leads to program giving error message "...blocked by group policy..see administrator.." I can run the program as Administrator and it works fine at d/ling & up/l but once again I can't start new torrents from magnets.

I have to go into safe mode to uninstall, as I get same error when I try to uninstall, from there uTorrrent will work OK! but I can't run in safe mode!

I have disabled Bitdefender Internet Security 2014 and Super Anti Spyware.

I followed options 1 & 2 here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/214461-local-group-policy-reset-default.html but no luck.

Can't get gpedit.msc to run in CMD, 'gpedit.msc' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.unsure.png

I have installed program as Administrator and also in safe mode but still the same error message when I try to run from desktop.

I have tried versions from 3.3 to latest 3.4.

A solution would be appreciatedsmile.png  I have tried Bittorrent to same effect [is it the same just a different skin?]

This is fucking retarded.  I just spent an hour figuring out why this is fucking broken--turns out, it fucking uTorrent's fucking retarded fucking programmers.  They set the installer to install the program to:

<username>/AppData/Roaming

Security policies prohibit running programs from this location.  I couldn't fucking figure out how to change that; editing group policies to allow apps to run from unexpected locations is LESS FUCKING SECURE (YOU RETARDED UTORRENT PROGRAMMERS) but even editing this, I couldn't run uTorrent from that location.  So moved the entire folder to Program FIles (x86) and it runs just fucking fine.

Hey assholes--before you break something so fundamental, try testing it first?  Then BE RESPONSIVE TO YOUR FUCKING USERS. This question was first asked back in JANUARY for fuck's sake.

As a regular user, you don't have access to install in Program files without granting it (Understanding and Configuring User Account Control).

That, if something, is a good security policy.

This is fundamental, before jumping to conclusions and calling someone retarded.

You can install µTorrent where you want, just create an empty settings.dat file in same folder as uTorrent.exe.

Google does the same with Google Chrome, FYI.
