Commander X Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 So , I just found out uTorrent IPfilter updater , the thing is , that how often is it updated itself? I mean , the project was started a few years ago , around 2009. Does the author still care to update it? If not , where can I find a decent free updater?
Commander X Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 Bump?My internet connection is extremely slow (25 KB/s) and I'm unable to upgrade any time soon. On popular torrents like Battlefield , there are more bad peers than I can handle. I've PeerBlock installed yet it doesn't 'completely' stop it and there are still considerable bad peers.
DreadWingKnight Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 If peerblock isn't blocking them what makes you think that uTorrent's ipfilter will fare any better? Also, if you're getting "considerable bad peers" just turn down the number of per-torrent connections. This will make those peers easier to isolate and automatically ban.
Commander X Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 Well. Yeah I never thought of that , I've turned down the limit from 1000 to 100. (Yes , hundred , for I hate redownloading gigs of files.). However , it seems those copyright trolls have "picked" me for trolling. The best way , it seems , is to limit the connections. Thanks.
sjf2 Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 I don't know if this will answer your original question or perhaps you already know...* There is a uTorrent file that can be used to block IPs named IPFILTER.DAT -- You can put lists of IPs in it to block them (duh)...* Peerblock downloads its "lists" from a website iBlocklist.com (not afiliated with PeerBlock). -- It is a good source for files that are lists of sites you want to block. -- You can also subscribe to their service (inexpensive) which gets you a PIN that allows downloading of even more lists.* I think (not positive) that you can add TEXT files of addresses right to IPFILTER.DAT and uT blocks them. -- I don't know the format of IPFILTER.DAT but the files from iBlocklist have a certain format that has more than addresses. -- The iBlocklist files are either .TXT files or .ZIP files (Peerblock can load either)* If you want to find addresses that are connecting to you, set Peerblock to show ALLOWED and watch the list. -- You can then go to iBlocklist.com and search for those addresses and find which lists contains them. -- Or you can create your own lists in PeerBlock to block...
DreadWingKnight Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 iblocklist - bluetack lists -> VERY bad lists.
sjf2 Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 iblocklist - bluetack lists -> VERY bad lists.Very Bad -- meaning what? Are you refering to "bluetack" lists as being bad, orAll IBLOCKLIST lists are badthen, by bad, do you mean bad as in BLOCKS TOO MUCH or bad as in DOESN"T BLOCK ENOUGH I wanna get a handle on your experiences so I understand. BTW: For what it's worth, I had been downloading yify movies for years with no problem and I always wondered what people were talking about when they talked about "getting caught" and getting warned by their ISP. I NEVER got any grief from my ISP or anyone else and I wasn't using a VPN or Proxy.. I wondered what I was doing RIGHT that other were not??? Well, I forgot about it for a few months and then I had some trouble with lists being downloaded for Peerblock, which I had been using since... forever. Well, it was just a list that went away and not really a problem and I fixed it the next day -- meanwhile... Leaving Peerblock unloaded, not running and leaving uTorrent running, downloading its little heart out, I sucked up a couple of gigs of movies from YIFY -- just YIFY, nowhere else. Well, started running Peerblock again that next day - only had it off for 1 day - and low and behold, my ISP sends me a "fan letter" from the DCMA or one of those places - boom! I got caught after years of dowloading on the ONE DAY that I wasn't running Peerblock. I thought it had to be a fluke, a coincidence because I never thought that Peerblock was that effective and I was just using it to cut down on ads! After comtemplating it for a while, I decided that it was NOT a fluke and that Peerblock really works for P2P and torrenting. So, I know that DreadWingKnight does not like Peerbloack and I know there are a boatload of lists that are hard to pick from but I think I must have a good set of lists. Unfortunatly, now uTorrent doesn't like me to run Peerblock but I have made "remote" work while Peerblock is running. So, there's my story.I would really like to stop uTorrent from complaining. Is there a advanced setting to disable the "peer" check -- or, can anyone tell me what uT is doing to check for a program like Peerblock. I haven't tried it yet but does just renaming "Peerblock.exe" to something else and starting that "something else", does uT complain? Otherwise, if it's a port it tries or something at the 2nd or 3rd layer in the stack, can someone tell me how it works? Thanks Last minutes thought... The "fan letter" named the movies that I downloaded so, from what i've read, I think that the weasels that are looking for us good, honets pirates are "joining the swarm" -- which I don't know much about but when they do, they can tell a whole lot about you than a sniffer capture...
