gorkrj Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 hi everyone,i've used bittorent and utorrent in the past on my old computer. i just bought a new computer. i download'd bittorent...then i went and download'd utorrent. the downloads were successful. my problem is that i can't get utorrent to take any torrent file i try to download. bittorrent takes the file and starts downloading it. whenever i open utorrent it asks me if i want to make utorrent my default user. which i click yes but still when i get a torrent and try to download it, bittorent takes it. every option, every preference has been checked and rechecked. Please help me brothers...how can i have utorrent override bittorrent download. thank you,rob g
DreadWingKnight Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Have you tried uninstalling BitTorrent? The problems tend to be relating to registry entries.Swapping between the two can become problematic.
Ultima Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Make BitTorrent not override each time you open. Why do you use both anyway?
gorkrj Posted May 26, 2006 Author Report Posted May 26, 2006 thank you for your responses...i thought bittorrent was the nucleus of all of this file sharing stuff...don't you need bittorrent to run in the background to be able to use the other programs...like utorrent, azureus, bitcomet etc. i'll try uninstalling bittorrent...we'll seei uninstalled bittorent and went download a torrent file...i received this message...torrent could not be opened because an unknown error occrured. should i reinstall bittorrent guys?? i really think i need that to have any torrent run..am i wrong here??rob
Determination Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 you do not need the original BitTorrent installed to run any other BT client. Uninstall the original, use µTorrent. Open µTorrent before you open any torrent file, so you can properly assign µTorrent as the default program for the .torrent file. Then open your .torrent. If the problem persists, the .torrent might be damaged.
