costnowt
Hi peeps! Uninstalled Vcom Fix-it utilities 5 using 'Ashampoo Uninstaller Suite Plus' as I can't find the original uninstaller, but for some reason it won't remove 'MxAVlsp.dll'. Thus I still keep getting, 'uTorrent is not compatible with 'VCom Fix-It' (Mxavlsp.dll) that appears to be installed on your computer. That program causes severe bugs, and might cause uTorrent to crash or behave strangely...'I've tried manually deleting it but to no avail. I've done a quick google search on how to remove this dll but it seems it may be useful? Please help as it's driving me nuts? Thanks in advance
Ultima
Maybe the file is still registered with Windows... Try unregistering it like this:Start > Run > regsvr32 /u "%program files%\vcom\system suite\mxavlsp.dll"If it doesn't help, restart your computer and delete. If that doesn't help, use Unlocker. costnowt
Hi! Thanks for the quick reply I tried your suggestions and managed to remove it but now that seems to have caused another problem Aaagh!Methinks a bit of background first. Before my first post I'd uninstalled Fix-it using 'Ashampoo uninstaller Suite Plus' but I was still left with 'MxAVlsp.dll', that's when I sent my 1st post.In the meantime, I was wondering that if I restored Fix-it (when Ashampoo Uninstaller uninstalls files, it just sends them to the recycle bin. To restore them you just do it in the usual way, ie, highlight, right-click...) I might be able to use the programs own uninstaller. This I did, but I couldn't find the programs own uninstaller. Oh crap! Now I'm in big trouble because not only have I not got the programs own uninstaller but I deleted Ashampoo's log file (snapshot of my computer before installation). I read somewhere that although not preferable, you can manually delete programs. I went through a couple of directories deleting everything related to Fix-it. With this done I used unlocker to get rid of the blasted 'MxAVlsp.dll' file.Out of the frying pan... Now I can't get an internet connection and the email scanner on 'AVG' anti-virus is not working! :mad I've tried reinstalling my ADSL modem software but this hasn't had any effect. Also, when trying to establish a connection it works for a short time then dies? Help?Apologies if this is a little long-winded but I'm not sure how familiar people are with the prg's I use. Please help? You know how it is when you're without the internet? Something like missing a limb comes to mind. :rolleyes
Switeck
You probably need LSP fix from here:http://cexx.org/lspfix.htmGetting HijackThis, Process Viewer, and TCP View (from www.sysinternals.com) might be helpful too if you haven't already. costnowt
Thanks for the reply! If I use LSP fix and it does the trick will this negate the need for the other prg's? Hate to sound a bit dense but once I get these prg's what exactly am I meant to be looking for? :/With Hijack this, is it a case of taking a snapshot and then posting it on here? Also do the other two prg's do the same thing? Lots of questions I know!Cheers
Switeck
HijackThis lists what is installed+running on your computer. VERY good for finding the hidden nasty running in the background.Process Viewer shows a real-time list of what is running on your computer -- and allows you to kill them from RAM memory. That way, you can then delete them from your hard drive if they're something bad.TCP View lists what connections are being made to your computer. On XP it can even show what application is tied to a particular connection. Once again, VERY handy for spotting hidden processes that want to link into places on the internet.LSP fix should ONLY be used if HijackThis says there's a broken LSP link. It may take some reading to find that though...
costnowt
Hi! Thanks for the responce. So I'm guessing, should I use 'Hijack This' first. If so can I post the results on here and hope someone can interpret them? If not where should I post it?Once agin thanks for the help!
Switeck
You can post it here, but it will likely be a LONG list! A few of us have some skill at deciphering the list, but you'll need to go elsewhere to find real experts on the subject.I personally just GOOGLE anything that looks strange. I also try to find the strange files and right-click+ Properties on them to see if they are signed by who made them.

schnurlos
my 2 cents:Uninstalling a programm doesn't only delete the files or dirs, it also changes a lot in the registry. If you don't use the uninstaller which comes with the programm, use the uninstall function in windows.Perhaps this helps to delete a "undeleteable" file: start windows in secure mode (F8 at startup) and delete this file by hand? costnowt
Hi Switeck! Just to update you, I've got my internet connection working - yipee! I took your advise about the Hijack this log and posted it on a 'Tech Support Guy' forum, it was suggested that I use LSP fix and that seemed to do the trick."Enumerating Winsock LSP files:" section...?? :/ As far as I know I posted everything that was in the Hijack This log (I started the prg. & clicked the 'Scan and save log' button). As for the , 'HUGE number of "Extra button:" and "Extra ??? menu item:" (??? varies) in the list.' I don't know, I recognise some of them being useful and others that are probably left over from when I've uninstalled stuff. I don't know how to get shot of this stuff though?By the way, mu torrent appears to be working now. Sweet  And thanks to schnurlos
Switeck
Sorry, I guess that extra info only appears in the HijackThis logs after changing the default configuration settings.(Other stuff , Config... , Misc Tools , check "List also minor sections (full)" , and click Generate StartupList log)Uninstaller programs are supposed to "set things right" -- put your computer back the way it was BEFORE you installed whatever it is you're trying to remove. The problem is, many of them leave behind lots of broken links in the system registry -- among the worst of which is a broken LSP link which can render the computer unable to access the internet. Others leave behind "shared" DLLs that only they themselves used. Or they uninstall DLLs that really WERE used by other programs too! Any one of those combinations is a disaster. Having all three...well, it's usually best to just reformat and reinstall. Some programs, with more shady motives, even intentionally leave behind extra things so they can aquire additional revenue after the sale. We tend to call that adware and spyware, but sometimes it's even arbitrary rules and regulations in the End-User's Licensing Agreement that forbids you from doing things that were previously legal...if you wish to be able to license THEIR product. (Sort of if you use our product, you cannot use the competition's product.)However, having said this about imperfect uninstallers, it is still almost always better to use an imperfect uninstaller (and try to clean up afterwards) than to try to uninstall and clean up manually. Even a poor uninstaller will usually re-link the LSP if it breaks the chain during the uninstall process.Microsoft Windows computers are an odd paradox -- the more 'useability apps' you add, the more crippled they become. It can reach a point where they can't be used at all, but long before then it's best to just reformat and reinstall. Been there, done that...many times. ...and needing to do it again on all 4 of the computers here again!
chevluvin
sometimes you can download the program again and install it again and then use the uninstaller/windows add remove programs to get rid of it (this works best with the identical versions of the program)
