Opening a Torrent file starts uTorrent but then nothing...

Everything was working fine 2 days ago and for months prior and nothing changed on my side in the past month or more but when I tried to open a torrent today, I encountered this issue.

 

Regardless of which method I use to open a torrent file, uTorrent fails to even open the window for me to select which files I want. It just does nothing. If I try to open the same file again, I get the error message telling me the torrent is already in the list and asking if I wish to load the trackers from it. Whether I say yes or no, same result (or lack thereof). My first instict was to search for an update and there was one (3.4.2) but it had no impact on the problem.

Do you have your settings set to show the dialog when you add a torrent?

Yes, set to show dialog and no, nothing under Hidden

 

... Correction, under hidden, or I should say NEXT TO hidden, there is a number 1 in a bracket (1)

Yes. Full system restart as well with no change. Magnet or normal torrent files. Same non-result

A bit of an update but still unresolved. Actually just more complicated and confusing now.

 

Not sure why the (1) next to Hidden under Labels didn't seem to show anything yesterday but today, after trying a few different torrent files, I noticed it changed to a (2) so I clicked on Hidden again and there were 2 torrents showing in the list. They both read 'Error: Can't open .torrent file: <file name/path>' in the Status field but maybe this info will help someone understand what's happening (I sure don't).  For what it's worth, I believe both of these torrents were non-magnet files.

Well, I am facing a similar problem.

Yesterday everything was working fine (3.4.2 build 32891).

Today I am unable to add a new torrent to the list. Lauching the file does open the programme but nothing happens after that. Also tested with an "old" torrent file that worked perfectly in the past.

Restarting µtorrent does not help.

Removing and reinstalling µtorrent did not improve the situation.

 

Settings are set to show the dialog when adding a torrent but it does not even open today.

Under labels no "hidden" item.

 

Any idea?

I suspected that at least one file was corrupted in the µtorrent directory and I solved my problem as followed:

(1) uninstall µtorrent

(2) delete (or rename) the directory C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\

(3) reinstall µtorrent.
