BoilerATC Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 I just moved on campus and the university has a very broad firewall. It bloks all P2P applications. How can I get around this, short of setting up my own server? What information do you need me to find out from the university about their firewall so that I can get around it? Thanks!Ryan
Ultima Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 You can't really do anything about it... maybe try UPnP and hope it gets through, but that's about it =T
Switeck Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 Protocol Encryption forced, don't allow legacy connections.Disable DHT, enable Peer Exchange....and even that probably won't work, but it's worth a try!If it DOES work, don't abuse the bandwidth -- use conservative settings like you might on mid-range broadband.Otherwise, expect a nasty letter or disconnection after 1 month of useage!
BoilerATC Posted May 31, 2006 Author Report Posted May 31, 2006 Well I tried these suggestions and it didn't work. What options do I have (besides moving :-)
Ultima Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 There are no other options, like we said. Unless you want to try getting close to the network people and hope that you can get them to open a port for you.
Inf Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 You may try to get around the block using the university https proxy, if such a proxy present. Some campuses do allow establishing outgoing connections via such a proxy. Yet, even if it works, you still wont be able to accept incoming connections, this may lower your speed alot.P.S: as Switeck already mentioned, this may have a nasty ending, so be carefull
BoilerATC Posted June 1, 2006 Author Report Posted June 1, 2006 Can I connect to an accepted outside source that re-directs me to uTorrent? I'm grasping for straws here.
Ultima Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 What do you mean? You can't get any outside connections that are incoming, since the university firewall would block it before you can ever know about it (and you probably won't know about it).
