markthornton90
Hi, I have just moved into my second year of university and now live in a private residential house. I have never had trouble downloading using utorrent however since moving into this house I have been getting download speeds around ~1kb/sec. I have run the setup guide as shown below. As you can see the internet connection in the house is not set up properly to download. Is there a way around this as I don't think the landlord will forward ports for me. Thanks. markthornton90
Can you suggest what I need to ask my landlord to do? I have just tried downloading using the 'personal hotspot' connection from my iPhone and files are downloading now just not very quickly. Whilst connected to my iPhone I have run the setup guide again and it still says 'port is not open' even though it is downloading. Does this mean it's something other than ports that is stopping downloads whilst i'm connected to the house network? Thanks.
PiusX
If your connected to their internet access you need to ask him to permit your torrent usage and ask nicely if they could permit torrenting on their network. What the Landlord decides to do after that will be up to him/her. But if their ISP tells them they will terminate his/her internet if they catch torrenting on his ISP internet he/she will most likely say no your using torrent on their network. And if they are permitting torrenting they most likely put a cap on how fast torrent speeds are and this means they know about torrents and the problems that come with it. Which would mean even if you communicate with them they will most likely not permit you any more speed then they gave you in the end. Remember they are the one paying for the internet and if you connect through it and want more access or bandwidth you will have to meet and talk to them about it to get more bandwidth usage. Connecting to iPhone is like the low end of DSL you will never get high speed internet and your going to waste your data bandwidth on your iPhone plan unless you have unlimted data so you should make sure you have that option otherwise you will have a very expensive iPhone bill.
