mcaspi
I seed some small swarms so I am familiar with the seeds in my torrents. Many times, peers are added to the torrents DHT's but there is never a connection with them. After some time these peers are removed from the peer list. What are these peers and why are they reported to my client? Are they reported to my client due to clients bugs in DHT implementations?
DreadWingKnight
They're probably firewalled peers. Non-bug.
mcaspi
So why do I see these peers only on the DHT and not on the trackers? It looks to me like DHT related and not connection related.
DreadWingKnight
Because they probably removed the trackers or got the torrent from a site with different trackers in the list.
mcaspi
So how come I don't see them initiate outgoing connections (by logging incoming connections)? It looks to me like they're dead/false peers.
DreadWingKnight
Then they were on the torrent while you weren't or are otherwise blocking you. There's too many factors to consider before declaring this a bug.
mcaspi
As I wrote before, I'm a long time seed in these torrents so the chances that I wasn't there while they were are very low. Chances of blocking me are also very low as every time it's a different peer. I don't say that this is a bug. I just wonder where the hell do different "dead" peers come from for a one hour visit on the swarm, which I can't connect to, which don't try to connect to me and can they be reported by buggy clients. This "crap", as I see it, also influences queuing in my opinion.
