Malloc error - uTorrent (1.8.6) crashing

I've googled and searched for a solution - have found none.  uTorrent 1.8.4 is crashing periodically (typically when app memory went over 3GB after a few hours).   Research online suggested using the beta 1.8.6 build, which is also crashing the same way (malloc error).

 

I"m running this on my iMac (16GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10).

 

Is there a known solution or workaround (other than running the beta, which is having the same problem)?  Thank you.
