dchunghk
Utorrent was running fine for a while until recently when it reboots the system anywhere from before the utorrent program is visible on screen to 5 minutes of use (closer to the former than the latter).1. I've checked my event log but there is no entries related to the crash2. deleted settings.dat and settings.dat.old3. both beta and stable has the same problem4. no conflicting programs (if anything, there is nothing but windows services) running in the background Not sure what options I have as there is no BSOD or any error messages... any ideas?Thank you,Chungus
Firon
Turn off automatic restarting for BSODs, see if you can see a message or not that way.Failing that, memtest86+ your RAM. Failing that, try a new PSU.
dchunghk
I forgot to say that it doesn't really restart the system, in fact, it shuts the computer down completely.1. No error messages after unchecking the autorestart box2. No errors on memtest86+3. There's a high temp on speedfan (temp 2 @ 56) but it doesn't crash under any other circumstances.4. No unstability except or utorrentI'm lost. Why would a new Power Supply Unit help? Thanks FironDennis
Ultima
If your computer uses more power than the PSU can supply, it'll crash. You're sure you checked for all incompatible softwares?
Firon
And sometimes PSUs go bad (I've had 4 faulty ones that caused this same exact problem )
TiKiSMiKiS
I have this problem too.Is a 'cold' reboot. Instantly.I try to debug the windows and is very dificult because reboot the computer, do not shutdown the windows. It's relationed with memory and/or dma. (possible cache)This happen me just install the version 1.5.437Each 5-7 minutes the computer restart, but making scandisk, until at the 12 restart the resume.dat is damaged and then stop, because µTorrent don't have nothing to do.If you put 2-3 torrents, usually don't happen. It happen if you have >5.I observe, that when the computer restart, µTorrent start to make Checking.I observe, that the mouse hang sometimes. We are speaking of low level of operating system.I try with this and it may work, but if i have more than 2 torrents to download/seed i use other client.Rename µTorrent.exe to uTorrent.exe (Because µ can't be introduced in a .cmd)Generate a .txt named uTorrent.txt and rename to uTorrent.cmdRight Click, Edit, and write start /belownormal utorrent.exeAnd try if it happen too. This seems be the half of solution.I can't know more, because it generates a cold reboot and can't analize. Ultima
That really sounds more like faulty hardware to me, or at the very least, incompatible softwares/drivers. I tend to think it's the former.
TiKiSMiKiS
Yes, i think it's a low level problem, but... That's the half of the problem.Because if there are not a program that use the low level don't happen.I really think that it's realationed with the cache and the access disk.May be too memory allocation. And of course with 'some' hardware. But for me is 'all' the times. It's not that my hardware is bad, because it's tested with many programs, with intensive 3d programs, with 2 gigabytes of ram, and is an HP WorkStation for Design with Xeon.http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06b/12454-296719-296721-307907-296721-1844968-1844969-1848788.htmlIf you have the solution, post in the service of hp, that i have 3 years of free onsite service. tecj1200
I just had the same problem and found this thread after doing a Google search. I only had utorrent installed for a couple days and the problem didn't seem to arise until I had multiple torrents loaded. A couple of the torrents were pretty large as well (one was 60 gigs I believe), so I'm not sure if that played a part. The first time I downloaded it was just one torrent under 2gigs, and had no problem.I don't think it's an overheating problem, I never had any issues before, even while playing 3d intensive games like FEAR. My cpu and case temps are usually around the high 30 when idle and 40 under load. I tested my RAM overnight and no errors were found. PS seems fine as well, and should have plenty of power. Like I said, I've been running for well over 6 months without issues. Also did all the ususally virus/spyware checksAnyway, after the 3rd or 4th cold boot in 30 minutes I uninstalled utorrent and the system seems to be normal again. I also ran some stress tests w/o issues.I will give it another try in a week or so (if the system continues to run stable). I'll report back if the problem shows up again. I love the program itself, definitely the best torrent program I've seen. Hopefully, someone can figure out the cause of this issues. Thanks
Firon
Start swapping hardware. Start with RAM, then PSU.
tecj1200
Probably a stupid question here, but I am running kaspersky's anti hacker firewall. Could any of the activities performed by utorrent (or any torrent program for that matter) be misinterpreted as an attack? Because, I was looking through some of the Attack Detector settings, and, for example, here's one of the listed actions. "an attack of an icmp exceeding 64kb (threshhold value) may result in emergency shutdown of some operating systems"?

Hake
Exact same issue here.- Instant cold reboot when using uTorrent, reboot rate increase proportionnaly to the number of torrent currently downloading- Hardware is fine, and reboot only happens in uTorrent. The new information is that this is also happening when I try to use Azureus, or (I think) Blizzard p2p downloader. This problem seems (at least for me) to be related to p2p softwares. I might add that the reboot rate seems to be higher if I am not on my PC. As soon as I stop using other softwares and leave my pc, uTorrent reboots it (not instant, but takes only a few minutes).I hope it helps. uTorrent is a great piece of software btw, nice work.
