Ultima
You should just keep your posts in one thread, but er, whatever... Uninstall NOD32 and try again. NOD32's caused too many problems to be bothered with, IMHO. Additionally, it was the source of this very problem for other people on the forums as well. Ultima
Assuming you didn't modify your net.max_halfopen, try disabling DHT. And make sure you selected the right option in the Speed Guide.
ramuk
Well my net.max_halfopen value is set at 50. I did disable my dht....still no improvement.
Ultima
Eh? Don't set net.max_halfopen equal to what you set the limit to in TCPIP.SYS. Set it to about 70%.
ramuk
I set tcpip.sys limit to 80 and net.max halfopen to 50....but still no change...still interferes with my browsing....I dont understand this because I didnt meddle with my system...its been doing good for the past 1 yr ... and now suddenly?????thanks for ur responses again ultima. Ultima
You restarted your comptuer after patching, right? If so, and it didn't help, try disabling DHT.
ramuk
I did that too, disabled my dht, restarted my comp..
Ultima
What router and modem are you using?
ramuk
motorola modem, cable by optimum and i have 2 routers...2wire and netgear. I have used both the router and the result is the same.
Ultima
Model numbers might be more useful to us, but um... have you tried connecting directly to the modem instead?Motorola modems don't seem to fare well with µTorrent, or at least that's been the case in the past. ramuk
well...thats a surprise. I have been using the same modem for the past one year, same router .... no problem with utorrent....but now for the past 4 days.....
Ultima
Ugh I still have this hunch that it's TCPIP.SYS that's causing the problem then. The patch still says the file is at a limit of 80 half-open connections, right?Anyhow, you might still want to try connecting directly to the modem just to be sure. ramuk
ok i will try again but I do see in the event viewer that I have the same 4226 error still...does that mean the patch has not been done?

ramuk
so what do i do...is there some other patch...y is the patch not working for me..cuz it clearly opens in the cmd prompt, asks for changes everything as mentioned in lvlord....does win defender has anything to do? Ultima
Possibly, if it's not allowing modification of critical system files. Um, you didn't insert your Windows XP disc when WFP asks for it, did you? If so, don't do that. Just click Cancel and confirm.
ramuk
yes u r ight...i didnt put my win xp,.... i clicked cancel, confirm and then rebooted my system
Ultima
At the very least, we pinpointed your problem. Now, what to do about it... try uninstalling your security softwares for the moment and try again. Do you happen to have some kind of automatic imaging program that doesn't allow modification of system files, and restores them upon restart? ramuk
nothing absolutely...probably windows defender was the last application i installed....had ms antispyware...it upgraded me to windows defender...do u think that might have???/
Ultima
I doubt Windows Defender would be causing this problem, but it's worth uninstalling if you haven't done so already.

Ultima
Take a screenshot of your running processes in Process Explorer. Make sure you take a screenshot including the Image Path column. If your name is in the path and you don't want us to see, I guess you can blot it out.
