Torrents from previous Versions not found

HELP! Just updated utorrent and have found that it hasn't installed properly (I think).

It opens like a brand new install with none of my previous torrents showing.
As per the faq I went to Preferences and hit the "Associate with torrent files" button and checked "Associate

on startup" No joy.

I then went to "Set your defaultprograms" but Utorrent doesn't appear as an option. This leads me to think 

the program has not installed properly. Well, I can't find the icon anywhere but the task bar and the only exe icon is for the install.
Now I find it certainly hasn't installed because I must reinstall the prog every time I reboot or turn the Computer on.

Please assist
