Need help with my external ip address and port forwarding

G'day everyone,

Connection type: ADSL

Connection speed: 1 Mbps downlink / 256 Kbps uplink

Linksys as the ADSL modem & Belkin with extender for home wireless network.

ISP: Emirates Internet and Multimedia Services

It seems that my ISP has some NATing problems, or i may be wrong. I tried uTorrent test port and I got the following message returned.

Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.

A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 34539 on 213.42.2.26...

Warning! Port 34539 can not be checked. Your browser is setup to connect through a proxy. This script will not work through proxied connections.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information if you need to map a port.

First to let you know, 213.42.2.26 is not my external IP Address but rather an ISP IP address. I try refreshing the page and I keep ending up with 213.42.2.xxx and so on.. :(. I need to run a proper port-check up on my External IP Address and not the server at my ISP (>_<) I believe my router or externel IP Address start with 217.165.xxx.xxx I can't get the exact ip right now because I don't have the username and password for the router. You guys in the USA and Europe have no problems with these things I am sure, I mean you always getting the proper ip appearing on the website and not the isp ip (T_T). While I am stuck here with 1 ISP that really sucks when it comes to these techy things. Speed and service is not bad after all in some circumstances.

This IP Address conflict can be really frustrating in all respects.

Thanks, hope you can help :)

If you can't use the port checker, the next best thing would be to grab a torrent with plenty of peers and hope that the light turns green. If it doesn't, then you either didn't forward your ports correctly, or your firewall isn't configured properly.

Try this if you want to find your real IP (I'm not sure if it works, as I'm not behind a proxy, but it looks like it does).

Alright, thanks, I grabbed a torrent with about 120 Seeders, from a private torrent site (Torrentleech). The best i ever got was a yellow light while hardly people downloaded from me and I my ratio is going down really bad now :( so this is another problem.

Regarding the traceroute, I am still getting that 213.42.21.xxx stupid ip. My ISP is just too ghey. I need to know if the port problem is from my

1. Linksys ADSL router (192.168.1.1 default gateway ip)

2. Belkin Wireless network (192.168.2.1 default gateway ip)

3. stupid ISP

4. Norton internet Security (i chose allow all connections and all ports)

5. Windows firewall (allow connections)

Your ISP transparently proxies all HTTP connections.

ohhhh I see, so thats what causing all this conflict !!! (T_T) ; ; ; ;

Well whats the solution to this problem? seriously our ISP sucks in many respects. Like I call up the Internet Help Desk, and explain my problem to the tech guy how my ip doesn't appear etc etc, he says well because we use ADSL PPPoA and that others whos IP does appear correctly are those on PPPoE. I think thats a nice bullshit by the tech support, or he just has no clue what he is talking about. He also said PPPoA is full bandwidth, and that PPPoE is shared...

:: EDIT ::

I just called up the help desk again, a cool guy answered this time, and he totaly understood my problem. He said that the ISP does this transparent proxy http thing for more security measures. He suggested that I e-mail the ISP and tell them that their proxy is way too strong and maybe they will do something about it but i doubt it.

Thank you for reading.

Firon, Klaus_1250, Ultima, Nefarious, Thank you so much for your support. I have learned new things, and now I have no problems with uTorrent, its the best I've used and everything is in order now. I don't even have to use the DMZ feature, I just added the ports, and everything works perfect. Thanks for this great support forum.

Nothing is wrong with DMZ if you have a good software firewall. If not than as Firon said, its like skipping the router right to your computer. But don't use DMZ unless you can't port forward as port forwarding is safer and more effecient.
