Installing as limited user puts files in logged-in user's profile

I'm having two issues:

  • Even though I installed and ran it as its own limited user, the installer put a few files in my personal %appdata% folder.  NOT OKAY.  No limited user has any reason to be touching my user profile.

  • Attempting to run as a limited user more than about twice always results in the "A newer version of µTorrent, 3.4.3 build 40298 is already installed.  Would you like to downgrade to 3.4.3 build 40208?  Choose "No" to continue running µTorrent."  I am running this directly from the .exe file, not from a shortcut, and there are no other µTorrent folders.

Optimally, µTorrent would:

  • Give the user a choice about where to install it;
  • Keep its files inside its own program folder;
  • Offer an option to run on startup instead of login;
  • Connect to existing sessions instead of spawning new instances; and
  • Not bug out when run as a limited user.

BUT:

The end-goal is to run it silently (with the webgui), as a non-administrative user.

If someone's done this successfully, can you post instructions?

1> It's only exposed to the internet if you don't take the time to secure it. All you need to do is enable the webui listen port and NOT forward it.

2> That's not the fault of uTorrent, nor is it the fault of the OS.

3> If you're using "Run as user" instead of actually logging in as that user, that's the cause.
