Hi,

I am a beginner of bittorrent client, this is the first time I use µtorrent. How do you increase the speed for download torrent? How to become a seeder and not leecher? How to configurate the speed guide based on the result below? How fast should my speed be to download torrent based on the result? my speed is very slow at 5-12kB/sec

dslreports.com speed test result: 254 / 192

Your download speed : 254 kbps or 31.7 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 192 kbps or 24.1 KB/sec.

Thanks.

1. select the xx/192k value in the speed guide, then click Use Selected Settings;

2. seeder means the one that has a complete copy of the file (100% of the file); to be a leecher is not necessarily a bad thing (we all are until the download is finished 100%); but after you finished the download, continue seeding it at least until the ratio is above 1.000.

3. If your settings are good, your download max. speed should be around 28-30 kB/s, but this depends on torrent's health state too (a very good torrent must have plenty of seeds, 4-5 times fewer peers and preferrably be hosted on a private tracker).

A last recommendation, since you are new to bittorrent: read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent#How_BitTorrent_works and the µTorrent FAQ: http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php very, very carefully.

Have good speeds! :)

Hey, Noob here, just wondered if I have a broadband connection download speed of about 2300kbps & a upload of 380kbps what sort of download speed in utorrent 1.5 am I to expect with say seeds 9(33) peers 57(248)? Also what do the numbers in the brackets mean anyway? Another thing I can't seem to get my upload speed to go above 35kB/s no matter what I do, is that normal? Thats about it for now, just one more thing, are there any places dedicated to seeders because as I understand it if everyone was a seeder we would all get faster downloads (teamwork!).

@ a63nt: read my post above and select xx/384k in the Speed Guide.

IT SHOULDN'T be above 35 kB/s, so that's fine.

The numbers in the brackets - total number of seeds/peers in the swarm.

Thanks for the valuable information. This link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent … rent_works seem to have disappeared.

How to and what to do to continue seeding it at least until the ratio is above 1.000. How to make the value increase? Do I need to configurate to continue seeding? There is a current port with a value under speed guide, what is that? Under preferences, General, window integration, what is the function? Do I need to tick both option? Under preferences, network, torrents, seeding priority and scheduler, what is the functions for all of them under this title (network, torrents, seeding priority and scheduler)? Where is the ratio column?

A very good torrent must have plenty of seeds, 4-5 times fewer peers and preferrably be hosted on a private tracker. What do you mean by this statement? How to check whether the torrent has plenty of seeds and 4-5 times fewer peers and whether the torrent is hosted on a private tracker?

Thank again.

The link to wikipedia is woking just fine for me - try it again.

To increase the ratio just leave the torrent open after it is fully downloaded and you will see that you are uploading (you are giving information to the other peers).

All your other questions are answered in the FAQ: http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php.

Read it very carefully, from top to the bottom, cause it seems you don't know much about torrents, nor about computers in general.
