Why can't I browse the internet when running uTorrent?

Hi,

I've just moved, and got an internet connection in my new place and have been using utorrent to download (and upload!) things (100Mbps connection). But I found when running about 4 torrents I can't browse the internet, and whenever I close down utorrent I can.

Is it just that the torrents are using up so much bandwidth that the browser can't function? I have used utorrent before in my other house and had no trouble browsing at the same time.

If anyone has any suggestions as to the reason I would be very grateful!

CfosSpeed or Cfos will likely solve this problem, and give priority to web surfing while running torrents.

www.cfos.de

I'm using it, and it works great and I can surf at normal speed even with 10 torrents running.

I had the same problem and in fact it was because I increased the bt.connect_speed and net.max_halfopen.

I just put the default settings and then it was ok. You might decrease them if you already have the default settings enable.

3 things:

1) use the speed guide, reading it carefully

2) disable DHT

3) patch the tcpip.sys file

that normally is what causes that problem

Just followed the advice Nefarious gave, because for some reason my cpu was getting thrashed recently, don't know wether it was the DHT or the patch, but all is good now :) Thanks

This has happened to me many times as well. I followed the speed guide, even set it one or two options slower than what my actual upload speed was. It has even happened with only one torrent downloading.

It seems to depend on the torrent itself. Say I am typically getting about 40kbs dowbload on a torrent, and browsing the internet, the speed will sometimes go just a bit higher like 60kbs, and I can no longer open any web pages. It continues to download the file but will not let me browse.

Closing out of utorrent doesnt help either, it just locks up my connection. I have to close utorrent, unplug my router and plug it back in, then do a "repair" on my network connection, to get back online.
