intermittent media hiccups with utorrent running

Whenever I try to play video (VLC,WMP11, or Winamp) while running utorrent the files skip and halt frequently. Trial and error tells me that it somehow has to be related to utorrent. This doesn't make any sense to me because of utorrent's small footprint. I am running XpSP2 with 256MB pci-e vid/amd 3500/1g memory. This is more than enough. I really can't imagine utorrent causing this problem, but it really seems like the only solution. Utorrent runs, problem exists- turn off utorrent, problem disappears. Has anyone else had this weird experience??

I have a 15gb (OS files) C:, 300gb IDE d:, 300gb sata E: (where the video is), a 300gb sata F:, a 1g USB card G:, and DVD burner H: and a VD I:. This is a fairly fresh install (I reformatted and installed prior to this post, but the problem still exists) and I've tried Bitcomet. Problem does not occur with Bitcomet, but I like Utorrent more, and, well, I hate not knowing why this happens.

I tried exiting statbar and while I was originally typing "thanks, that worked!" the same halting returned and as consistently. It goes so far that typing/backspacing in FF is halted. I know FF has leaks, but I restart it enough to keep it @ or ~ 100mb max. According to statbar (when I was running it, I was at a constant 3-400mb mem usage and 0-10% CPU usage (browsing, Word, etc...)

My next guess is that it has something to do with Avast, or maybe something you configured in Avast... Can you try uninstalling (yes, uninstalling, not exiting) Avast to test that theory? If you're worried about catching a virus in between, just don't visit any website while you're testing.

  • 2 weeks later...

man, i'm so glad that i found this thread!

Thanks a lot, dikkememmen for the avast info.

i was with a problem that the OS was constantly freezing for 2 seconds with utorrent running. Even that was just 2 seconds, it happens each 1 minute or something. It was bothering me a lot. After i closed the P2P protection from avast everything looks fine now. Well, so far.

thanks again for the info.

BTW, thanks to all utorrent developers for their efforts. I really like this torrent client! :D
