I download a file and want to seed back but for some reason I cannot upload at all...the upload is at 0 kbps. There are people connected to me. There are about 8 or 9 but something interesting I noticed, I logged the peer activity and kept seeing the same thing over and over again. It looked like this:

This doesn't happen everytime I use utorrent but has happened before. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Would I still be seeing this activity if my ISP (Insightbb) was throttling bittorrent traffic?

One last thing, I get the exact same results when trying this through a VPN. This has really got me baffled.

Insight BB throttles...and has done worse with Gnutella traffic.

Also, other ISPs disconnect 'external' connections file-sharing wise. So with those, they can upload/download with others on the same ISP but get really slow or no speeds from outside connections.

...so even if you aren't throttled/disconnected by your ISP, other ISPs do this and you still suffer.

I realize that it has been documented that Insightbb is supposedly throttling then explain why when I use another tracker from another site with many more peers, that I can upload at full speed and download at full speed as well. One thought I had was could this be a DNS issue?

I doubt it's a DNS issue. But if it is, all you could do is complain to your ISP.

In the past, InsightBB would upload/download just fine inside its network confines. So 2 InsightBB customers could upload+download just fine to each other. They may even be able to download just fine from ips outside their ISP's range. But uploading to ips outside may be restricted to some low amount or even set to 0.

If you could find a willing friend on a different ISP, you (or s/he) could create a private torrent and you could see if you could download/upload to him/her just fine. Naturally, the torrent creator has to be unfirewalled and have the tracker features enabled in µTorrent. This would eliminate 'bad' ips causing your problem and would be pretty good proof to tell your ISP that something IS blocking your internet access.

Someone with similar problems that's also on InsightBB:

The theory about uploading and downloading to fellow insight users is completely untrue. I am uploading at this very moment to people from Europe at the same speeds as those marked from the U.S.

What I find strange about all this uploading behavior is when I started using this other tracker, the first torrent that I had been having problems actually started working, it was slow but it was still working.

Now I am wondering if it is possible that a specific tracker is being throttled? This behavior is so strange.

By the way, since downloading from this different tracker, my speeds have been solid at the speed that I have it set at.
