Slow Down Speed

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I downloaded uTorrent 1.2.2 and the download speed is very slow. For example, it doesn't go over 3 kB/s for the last episode of the simpsons. I used to have BitTornado and there I downloaded such files at 50 kB/s at least.

There is no problem with the upload speed though.

On the status bar I see: Network OK.

I didn't change any of the default values.

Can anyone help please?

Thanx...

The speed I get from that torrent is between 20-30 kB/s, my max speed should be around 190...

Port for incoming connections: 17926

Enable UPnP port mapping (checked)

Global maximum upload rate: 10

Global maximum number of connections: 200

Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 50

Number of upload slots per torrent: 4

Enable DHT/for new torrents (both checked)

I don't think I have a router (how can I check that?)

And why does it pre-allocate the files although "pre-allocate disk space" is unchecked?

Thanx for your time...

I would go to [removed link to illegal content] and download one of their top 100 torrents for something like [removed] tv shows and then try downloading them both at the same time.

I have a 384kbit max upload speed and I set it to 30kByte in the Utorrent config so that it doesn't saturate my bandwidth, and that seems to help.

I would consider changing the port to something like 31365 or 47324 or something unique and higher like that, as some ISP's block out the lower ports that are commonly used for torrent downloading.

Good luck.

If the OpenOffice torrent ran that slow, there's something with your settings I suppose. And I would say that the port is alright, but change it to something higher anyway as dudeboyz said.

Also, I don't think you need to have UPnP checked. Not that it will matter. You might also want to enable peer.lazy_bítfield in Advanced Options.

And you can check if you have a router by following this:

Start -> Run -> "command" -> [Enter] -> "ipconfig" -> [Enter].

If you see something like 192.168.xxx.xxx behind IP Address, you're behind a router. But I doubt it, since the statusbar is marked with Network OK.

Also, how many seeds/peers were you able to connect to when you tried the torrent in my sig?

i get the same problem, really popular torrents like Oo, do get my full 120k dl (am on 1024dl, 128ul btw) but torrets that are a "little" less popular never, ever, go above 40k (ul speed is maxed out as soon as i start the torrent, on every torrent.)

i personally think uTorrent doesn't like ppl with a conection less then 4mb.

[For Refrence]

Network is "OK"

i have no router, or firewall

am on WinXP fully uptodate

am on the latest drivers for my motherboard manu.

My Connection:

[DL] 1MB, max is 1280kb

[uL] 128kb max is 16kb.

my Config, for refrence:

[Network Options]

Port: 52525

Random: "Un"checked

UnPnP: "Un"checked

Max UL: 12

Al UL: 0

Max DL: 0

[Torrent Options]

Max Connections: 128

Per Torrent: 77

Additional Slots: "Un"checked

Active Torrent: 2

Active Downloads: 1

DHT: checked

DHT New: checked

Pre-allowcate: checked

[Advanced Options]

net.low_cpu: False

net.max_halfopen: 99 (WinXP is patched to 100)

peer.lazy_bitfield: True

..All other options are Defaulted..

You should set your upload limit to 10kB/s.

Also, reduce your net.max_halfopen to 90 if you think you need that much. I'm using 60 on a 10Mbps line.

And if the OpenOffice torrent runs fast, there's nothing wrong with µTorrent.

Edit: I haven't noticed anything about µTorrent prioritizing 4+Mbps peers.

are u in a diffrent galaxy?

10kB/s is far too slow.. no other client says as low as 10...None

Oo runs fast.. and? it has loads of seeds (it does not reflect the average seeds, peers ratio in most torents in the network, its well above average), how can judging the whole of my utorrent connection and utorrent settings on that?

what about normal torrents? with less seeds.. and torrents that take more uploading to actually get good speeds (as the whole nature of BitTorrent)

what about other clients? having none of these problems at all.

take this as a constructive criticism outburst

Hey,

I too have speed problems.

It is cyclical in a way, my dl speed will be steady (but very slow at around 10kB/s) then trail off to 0, and then after a few moments will pick back up again.

I took a screen shot of the speed logger but don't know how to display links to my documents here.

I would really appreciate any help, as my internet is max download speed, I also have an unlimited amount of data to use but it literally takes weeks to download a 4GB file!

I am having frequent timeouts, (Page cannot be displayed) when I use the net at the same time as uToreent.

Thanks heaps,

My computer details:

Windows XP SP2, Home Edition

Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz

512MB of RAM

AVG Anti Virus

Internet Connnection Details

ISP: Xtra (New Zealand)

Down: Maximium "As fast as your line allows". (From speed check, 2699kbps)

Up: 128kbps

uTorrent Details:

Max up 10kB/s

Global max down: Unlimited

Max number of connections 128

Max number of connected peers per torrent 16

Number of upload slots per torrent 2

Enable DHT Network: Check

Add uTorrent to firewall exceptions: Check

Enable Upnp port mapping: Unchecked

I have a (ISP supplied) D-Link DSL-302G, 2nd generation Router

I have forwarded the ports so my network is working ok.
