IGITIHI
Hello everyone! This is my first post here and I tried to read as many posts as possible in this forum before starting this thread but I couldn't find a solution to my problem. I also read the sticky threads and the faq to no avail. So, the problem is this:Generally, utorrent works as it should. I downloaded the openoffice torrent and it did max out my connection. However, the last few days I experience very low download speed (upload speed is normal). When I join a swarm as one of the first leechers, I always end up being the last one to complete the torrent. Using the peers tab I can see that I download at 5-10kB/s maximum, while the other leechers reach 100kB/s or more. It looks like almost all the seeders/leechers in the swarm upload and download at normal speed while I download at 1kB/s maximum form each peer. There are also many peers form whom I don't download at all, even though I am connected to them. This happens every time I am downloading a torrent, no matter if it's well-seeded or not.Let me give you a specific example: for the past week I had been downloading a large file (700MB) which had only 3 seeders. So, I thought it's normal that I don't download faster than 2kB/s. However, another leecher joined the swarm yesterday and he immediately started downloading at 120kB/s! He eventually completed the file and I am still downloading at 3kB/s...So, to sum it up, the problem seems to be that I can't download faster than 1kB/s from each peer (although sometimes some peers are more "generous" but that's an exception). Any ideas?
jewelisheaven
If you download at expected speeds from openoffice it's not the connection. Therefore it's your settings.List your Ctrl-G settings please. The "DL Rate" column is an estimate based upon piece messages.
IGITIHI
Upload limit: 22kB/sUpload slots: 3Connections: 50Connections (global): 50Max active torrents: 5Max active downloads: 2Encryption is enabledPlease note that I've tried stopping all torrents except the one that I'm donloading but the speeds don't change. And I may have set max active torrents to 5 but most of the time only one or two torrents are active.
Switeck
How fast did the OpenOffice test torrents download?
IGITIHI
It reached 90kB/s after 5 minutes and then rarely dropped below 95kB/s.
Switeck
Then it's probably just the torrents you're on have predominately BitComet/BitLord clients that upload at only ~1 KB/sec (OR LESS!) to peers they're connected to.
IGITIHI
I don't think that this can explain why I am always the last of the swarm to complete the file. In the example I have given, it's obvious that the other leecher could download at normal speed from the seeders. The question is; why couldn't I? jewelisheaven
It's also (more, imnsho) likely your ISP is shaping bittorrent traffic. Presence on swarm does not give ANY indication of ETA to finish. I see malaysian peers on my swarms sometimes and I feel for them. They have a nice in-house transfer... but are completely crippled for traffic outside their "safe" zone, i.e. the US, Europe, and almost everywhere else.Check out 1.8 from the Announcements forum self-encapsulated to see if that helps in any way :/ Other than that, we haven't yet looked at your setup... i.e. running processes. jewelisheaven
There are problems with IMON (2x7 ESET product). Can you try adding uT to exclusions list to see if that makes a difference. I don't think it filters then again recently someone found that with an exception for uT, IMON was still injected into uT. IGITIHI
I had already added uT to IMON's exclusion list before starting this thread.

IGITIHI
So, how can I fix this? I have followed this procedure: In NOD32 Control center I chose "Thread protection modules"-->"Imon"-->"Setup"-->"Miscellaneous" tab-->pressed the "Edit..." button in the "Exclusion" field and added "D:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"have I done anything wrong?Edit: I just learned that there are many other users of my ISP who face exactly the same problem. I am now pretty sure that jewelisheaven was right. The ISP (OTENET in Greece) is using traffic shaping. So, thanks everyone for the help! I'll switch to 1.8 and see if it makes any difference...
