jibba
If and When you make you linux port, that you have a Command Line Interface to it.Some people are good enough to use CLI's only... Not this fance GUI nonsense...
dolbysnoopy
Me too. The btlaunchmany.py worked good in the past when the official client can't dl unicode, multitracker torrents. Besides, I support compiled xBSD and linux binaries if it's closed source.
1c3d0g
Please don't...if I wanted CLI, there are plenty of other ugly-looking clients. GUI please...
nedkelly
I agree with 1c3d0g, what linux needs is a feature rich GUI client with low memory use
splintax
I too agree with 1c3d0g, there is no GUI client for Linux as good as µT..
Redleer
i would like µt with GUI on linux
dolbysnoopy
But I think the program will grow very big when code in GUI under linux, or need to install QT, GTK libs before running. Since we run it background *MOST* of the time, I don't care about the beautiful graphics.
Firon
I don't think using QT or GTK is a necessity, or is it?Besides, when have you seen ludde use premade libraries?
dolbysnoopy
QT/GTK is standard GUI libs existed for many UNIX platform so it's more convenient to write GUI programs for Linux/*BSD/Solaris/etc. You might know the official bt client using GTK and Opera browser using QT for compatibility for many unix os with small program size.I think if premade libs is so good, then official BT client and opera don't need to use QT/GTK.. right? I wish I'm wrong.
foxyshadis
When you write your own GUI code you end up with something like AWT or QT pre-1.0. ;p
splintax
It's also more convenient to use premade libraries when writing Windows apps...But µT uses none of those.
foxyshadis
Eh? I don't see utorrent custom-writing all new controls (well, maybe toolbar buttons), I see win32 common controls put to good use. Win32 is a premade library, just a low-level one... Not this fance GUI nonsense... Have you tried rTorrent with libtorrent? I've used it on my linux machines before and it is a pretty decent cmd line linux client with a simple GUI that runs in shell also. When you suggested this, rTorrent came to mind... if you haven't already, check it out.
ZoMtEc
Linux port would be great! Just create a core which runs in background and a optional gui! BUT don't forget to make it possible to control utorrent completly from console! a webinterface would be also great!
sixshot
rTorrent and libTorrent for those who are wondering about BT clients for *nix/*BSD
dolbysnoopy
Thanks, sixshot.. I never heard about rtorrent/libtorrent. I used ctorrent and the official one. I don't see people using rtorrent when I checked the torrent's peers client page. Is it displayed as "Fake Bitcomet"? Well I see >95% of peers using Bitcomet here. Firon
I think rtorrent is shownt as Unknown RT, but it should recognize libtorrent (if you see Unknown lt, that's also libtorrent )

Firon
using the API is not the same as using premade libraries like MFC or even the standard C libraries :/
nedkelly
the rTorrent and libTorrent will properly support DHT in the future, the developer hopes to get some help writing a DHT library or he will do it himself, see http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/ticket/98 This would make rTorrent/libTorrent a very cool torrent client/library, but we still need a good linux GUI client
