Connection freeze

Hi,

I'm new to the µTorrent forums though I'm using this wonderful client for a long time. We had a lot of problems together (well, *some* problems, not a lot, it's an awesome program we're talking about here!!), but thanks to the work of the team it's better every day.

I'm still having a strange issue, which doesn't seem to disappear : sometimes, when I launch µTorrent, it begins to download/upload perfeclty nice, and then everything drops to 0 and I'm unable to do a thing on internet ("limited connectivity blabla") I have to switch my WiFi switch off and on to get it to work again.

Sometimes I have to do that like 2 or 3 times and then no problem, I can let it open for 3 days and upload 50 gigs of data without a single limited connectivity issue.

So I'm asking, am I the only one experiencing this trouble? It's not that much of a problem, just have to switch off/on, but it's still curious...

I'm running the last beta on Win7 (it does the same with the last stable version). It doesn't seem to come from my ISP (Numericable, France), cause when I get back to my hometown and its crappy phone line connection (I love fiber optic ), it does the same.

Tried local area connection, same issue... I have no firewall except Windows one

I also take advantage of this post to say "bravo!" (like french people use to say) to the team that created µTorrent : it's very well written program, my favorite when it comes to torrent files! Very good work guys, hope it will go on for a long time...

i have the same problem and have no idea why this happens. I'm using win 7 x64 and lan connection to a cable modem (integrated via rhine II network adapter). Pls help!!!

I'm glad I'm not alone! Maye it a Win7 related issue, cause I don't recall anything like that under Xp...

It could even be due to 64 bits OS : I installed µTorrent on my girlfriend's laptop under Win7 32 bits and there's no problem at all (same connection blabla)

I've been having this issue for months. I've gone through about 10 different guides on utorrent. I'm running Win 7 x64. Been using utorrent for years and years with no issues like this. I have also tried 4 different routers as well as a wrt54gl with tomato firmware. At some point the connection always freezes and I have to unplug and plug my cable modem to get the connection back. There is always a chance that it is my cable modem but it has never froze doing anything else and the cable company swears it's not the modem. I'm still about to go there and swap it out for another one.

I've tried about 100 different combinations of settings in the bandwidth prefs and it never helps. I can limit speeds like crazy as well as lower all the connections to almost nothing and it always ends up happening. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

Thanks switeck. I'm currently using your speed guide and am testing out Ultima's info on INTERRUPTED INTERNET CONNECTIONs. I have everything disabled from Ultima's thread. Most of them I have tried but there are a few I have not. The only thing I did not know is how to disable Teredo/IPv6. I see the button in the prefs but it is grayed out.

Currently I'm downloading at about 2.5MB/s and upload at 4kB/s. Normaly I up around 180kB/s so I'm not sure yet if it's the new settings or just don't have anyone to upload to at the moment. I'll post on how this goes. Thanks

Check your torrent/s for peers with lower % than you...or a "d" or "D" flag.

uploading is pretty normal now. A little slower to get up there but is fine. I also followed a link in one of the guides to test for isp throttling and everything was fine. Also no d or D tags on any of my peers.

After a couple days with all of the settings set from your guide as well as the other one I mentioned it still will kill my internet connection. It kinda seams that it may be less often but it still locks up and I have to unplug and plug the modem once in a while.

router wrt54gl running tomato firmware v1.27

Was doing some searches on Tomato firmware in the forums and it looks like I should lower the TCP timeout settings. Under TCP timeout I changed the "none" to 30 and the "Established" to 500 from 14400. UDP was already 30 and 180. I'll test this out and see how it goes.

Try with PeerGuardian 2 uninstalled, it's kwon to freeze the connection. This software is useless and doesn't protect you (very low security level) as you might think.

You can use uTorrent's ipfilter.dat file to block hostile IP ranges instead, but keep the list SHORT!:

Thanks guys. So far everything seams fine since I got rid of peer guardian. Should have a giant disclaimer or sticky saying that it's pretty useless and is known to cause issues. I should have posted a long time ago. I have changed my router and utorrent settings probably over 100 times and spent days reading forum posts on everything I could think of.

Well it looks like that was not the issue. Connection is still locking up every once and a while and connection settings are set to Switeck's info and I have also done Ultima's settings for connection issues. Oh well, next I will replace the modem.
