  1. Until that is implemented' date=' it would be best to just order them like they were before the change. I haven't seen a single user say they like the new order, while there are many complaints against it. Wouldn't it just be easier to change it back to the way it was? I don't understand the developers' pointless changes sometimes.[/quote']

Those that support it problably will not come here saying that they're happy with this change.Generally only those speak out who do not like it.

I suspect they looked at tab usage stats and saw that the Files tab was the most used.Hence the move to 1st.And why not.Multifile torrent are more and more common.I always watch this tab when adding a new torrent to unselect useless files i do not want to download.

You're right, most of the time they don't. That said, I have seen people saying they like certain changes. Sure, it might not be as common as the complaints, but still.

Also, I don't believe there's such a thing as "tab usage stats". Where would they get these stats from? It's not like µTorrent spies on you and reports which tabs you use most often (or does it? ;)) Personally, I select and unselect files most often in the "Add New Torrent" dialog and not in the "Files" tab.

µTorrent is the only bittorrent client I know of that has the "Files" tab first. It makes a whole lot more sense to have the "Info" tab first. That is the tab I always leave it in and I suspect most people do the same. I really miss the old layout that had this order:

Info (General), Trackers, Peers, Pieces, Files, Speed, Logger

It was a lot more logical and followed a more thought-out pattern. It just made a lot more sense. Now they changed it, which let's face it was completely unnecessary and liked by nobody, and they're saying "wait for an update so you can change it back yourself". It's like they give us something, then take it away, then make us wait to get it back. No smart software company does this sort of thing. It's just completely wrong and backwards.

I can't help but think that the developers make certain changes just for the sake of change...take the icons and colors for example...the old ones were fine and there was nothing wrong with them so why change them...especially changing them for the worse and not for the better? And why would you remove the status icons from the torrent list by default...like I said, change for the sake of change. It's like they're trying to say "we've perfected the client in every other possible way performance-wise, so there's nothing left to do but tweak the GUI"...which we all know is not true as there are still many bugs to be worked on and much work to be done when it comes to performance...or even fixing things that used to work (better) in previous versions.

And all of this messing around does nothing but annoy people, and create new bugs and break things that used to work just fine. Believe me, I love updates to any piece of software and am totally a future-thinking kind of person, but if your updates are gonna break or worsen existing functionality, then sometimes it's better to follow the mentality of "if it's not broken, don't fix it".

  3. Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else so here's another tray icon issue:

"Always show tray icon" with "Start µTorrent on system startup" and "Minimize at system start" are selected, and µTorrent is pinned to Windows 7 taskbar. µTorrent shows up in tray on system start but taskbar icon still shows it as closed until it is clicked or the tray icon is used to bring up the main window.

Do you have "Minimize to tray" turned on? If so then what you describe is the proper behavior.

On a tangent, I just wanted to mention I really wish tooltips for filenames worked in the Name column of the Add New Torrent dialog. Cheers! :)

Also, the tooltips for everything in the Torrent Jobs List are messed up as well. The only way I can get them to show up is by scrolling, then quickly moving the mouse cursor to where the tooltip should appear. If I just try it without scrolling first, they don't appear at all. I think this is related to the whole GUI updating issue.

BTW, I'm using the 64-bit version so idk if the same applies here.

    I'll ask again. Please help!!

How can I add the status icons in the "Name" colunm in Utorrent 3.0?

    http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4513/utorrent3.jpg

I want these icons at side to the file name' date=' like it was in 2.2.1

Anyone knows how to proceed? I cannot find any option in UT to enable it.[/quote']

Go to Advanced options in preferences and set gui.show_status_icon_in_dl_list to true

IMHO, this option should be set to true by default.

And maybe later on should be moved out of Advanced and into UI Settings...

...Although other gui.* options are probably ahead in line for that move.

Some GUI glitch: on the "Files" tab — on every µTorrent restart the "Rate" column forgets it's width value (i.e. set by double clicking) and gets default (?) value about twice as wide' date=' activating horizontal scroll.

Sorry if this was mentioned earlier.[/quote']

    Hi,

Does this still happen for you?

If so, please let me know what the circumstances are (upgraded from version X to Y, OS Version, default info tab, etc)

    Thanks.

If you can't reproduce this, then I'm guessing his settings.dat is messed up like mine was when I had the Streamable column issue. Starting with a fresh settings.dat fixed it for me. BTW, were you able to find anything out from the settings.dat I sent you?

  4. ...As for the ratings; you're probably misinterpreting OTHER users ratings as being your own...
Other users (myself included) have the same problem and I don't think he's misinterpreting anything because it says "Your rating" next to the stars in the Ratings tab. Also, I think there should be a way to change/remove your rating.
  5. I think it would be MUCH better to sort [Peers] by Relevance first and % second! That way the most relevant peers (the ones that actually have the data you want) stay near the top of the list.

Here I disagree with you' date=' it's not as though whatever's highest on the Peers tab dictates priority; µTorrent is going to do what µTorrent is going to do. I think it makes more sense to have the peers µTorrent is active with at the top, and the best way to do that is to sort by Downloaded with secondary sort by Uploaded.[/quote']I know that the sort order doesn't affect µTorrent's downloading/uploading behavior. This is just the way I have it sorted and IMHO I think it's the best way. I like seeing the peers which matter most to me (the ones that have the data I want), and the best way to do that is to keep them near the top of the list. I've grown accustomed to having it sorted this way and I think it makes the most sense to make it the default sorting order. Though you may not agree with me, I'm sure everyone can at least agree that sorting by IP doesn't make much sense at all. But really, this is not that important because it's something that can easily be customized.

I think the developers should focus instead on the more important issues.

  6. P.P.S. I really hope I don't have to repeat myself on any of these problems!

You known what really gets problems fixed quickly? Red. You' date=' sir are a genius.[/quote']

Well it seems to have gotten your attention :P

Alrighty' date=' so after trying out 3.0 for the first time today I'm a little distraught..

    A few items:

    1. First and foremost: I dug through all the advanced options and could not find a way to get rid of the enormous green down arrow when Category List is closed. PLEASE allow users to remove this as it takes up valuable screen real estate for those of us who don't want to use any of the flashy new features.[/quote']

    1. We have decided to implement this, due to popular demand.

Do you mean implement the arrow, or the removal of it. I really hope it's the latter but I still see it in the latest build...hopefully you get around to it in the next one.

    3. Back on the topic of screen real estate' date=' Added On/Completed in Info tab should be beside one another, much like Peices is in a separate column, to use the space much more efficiently. I also noticed Completed On shows 12/31/1969 9:00:00 PM until a torrent actually finishes? "N/A" would probably suffice :P[/quote']

    3. Done.

Thanks, but I don't know why you decided to separate "Created On" and "Created By". I think that was fine as one line and saved just that little bit more space. Also, "Comment" should really be the last line there because some torrents have really long comments so it just works better that way. See my original suggestion: http://i56.tinypic.com/2zg6phs.png . If you do want to keep "Created On" and "Created By" separated, just move "Created By" underneath or above "Created On".

    4. If ratings/comments are disabled' date=' the dialog when removing a torrent shouldn't show up full of ratings/comments related stuff. I don't want to hide the dialog completely because I like having the failsafe of it asking me if I'm sure, but it shouldn't be asking me to rate something after I spent the time to go through all the options to disable them.[/quote']

    4. This feature (disabling comments) was implemented because a handful of people (one person?) requested it. Unfortunately, we don't have time right before a stable release to polish a feature that 0.0000001% of the user base are going to use.

To be fair, I think it was more than one person. This is not a huge deal (at least to me), so I can understand that it's not a priority right now. One thing that should also be looked at concerning ratings is that some torrents get rated automatically when I know I didn't rate them myself. This has been reported before.

    5. Since you reordered all the tabs' date=' would it not also be fair to give us a way to reorder them ourselves? I preferred them the way they were.[/quote']

    5. We are definitely going to do something about the tabs. Expect it. Don't expect it in 3.0

That's fine, but what I can't understand is why you can't put them back in the original order that we got used to for so many years now (while you work on the reordering feature). I've seen many people complain about the new tab order but I haven't seen a single person saying anything positive about it. So, I suggest you simply put them back how they were and that way everybody's happy

    9. Sort by IP in Peers by default doesn't make much sense. I'd like to suggest it should be sorted by Downloaded and then secondary sorted by Uploaded so that all the most active peers remain at the top of the list.

    9. Agreed. We'll default to sort by downloaded by default.

I think it would be MUCH better to sort by Relevance first and % second! That way the most relevant peers (the ones that actually have the data you want) stay near the top of the list.

P.S. Thank you for listening and fixing some of the things I wrote about...but don't forget about the rest of my post.

  7. osmosis' date=' I completely agree with everything in your post. I also suggested they fix the empty space in the Info tab last year and I have yet to see any response. It's very frustrating to be ignored repeatedly as has happened with many of my posts. I, too, have been with µTorrent for a very long time but seeing where µTorrent is heading recently has me looking for alternatives. Sad really...

Layout in the info tab is changed. Is the Global download rate limiting still giving you problems?

OK, Global download rate limiting finally works again! My guess is that it was my old settings.dat messing it up. Since I have a new settings.dat now, it's working again.

Please fix the other issues I wrote about: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=587258#p587258

I don't know as I haven't tested this in a while because there was no changelog entry saying it was fixed...but i assume it's still broken. I will let you know the next time I download something.

Also, please allow us to remove the unnecessary green arrow and sidebar when the Category List is closed:

Please let us remove the new category bar!

And, please move the Network Status icon to the far right as there is now an empty space where the AV icon used to be. The strange thing is that when I toggle gui.show_av_icon, the Network Status icon moves to the far right where it should be...but when I minimize µTorrent and restore it again, the Network Status icon returns to its incorrect position. Please fix this!

Another thing you guys messed up a few builds ago is that I'm now forced to use "Always show tray icon". I used to have this option turned off so that the tray icon only showed up when I minimized µTorrent (I have Minimize to tray enabled). Now, when I minimize µTorrent with the "Minimize to tray" option enabled, there is no more tray icon unless I also have "Always show tray icon" enabled. Please fix this!

P.S. Please also read and respond to the other suggestions posted by osmosis:

    Off Topic:

I can't delete or change my avatar on the forums!

  9. I have my columns sorted so the # column is the primary sort and the Added column is the secondary sort. After updating to the newest build, the secondary sort is all out of order and there's no way to fix it. I noticed that the times are sorted for each date but not the dates themselves. It used to be sorted by date, then time.

I hope this is not just me because my settings.dat is messed up. I think I might have to redo my settings soon if that's the case.

EDIT: OK I just tried it with fresh settings.dat and still having the same problem.

  11. Yes' date=' you can remove it but it doesn't stay removed after restarting µTorrent. Hopefully it's fixed in the next build because it's still an issue in 25252.[/quote']

I can't reproduce this. The column stays gone after a restart when I disable it. You are talking about the streamable colum in the files tab, yes?

Well, it happens here. It only started a few builds ago. Maybe my settings.dat got messed up but I really don't feel like redoing all my settings.
