  1. Funny how when you do one thing unrelated to the program that he doesn't like, he suddenly turns on it and says that it sucks, citing the most ridiculous reason.

Metatron, stick to Usenet if you love it so much, we don't need users like you breaking common rules of etiquette spamming the forum.

Unless you can disprove Google cache and prove me wrong, I'll just say this: don't sign up under two usernames and pretend to be separate users, jult/Metatron, just to make it look like your opinions have more weight than they really do.

@Firon: Metatron was the other username I suspect jult to be signed up under, and yes, it'll probably be pointless to ban him as well, since (if my hunch really is correct) he'll just come back under another IP address again.

  2. It's all about the seeds and peers. Try a fast torrent, like OpenOffice.org. While I doubt it'll max out your download speed (and even if it could, you'd probably finish before it gets there), you'll probably be able to see whether your settings are doing well. In my opinion (as you said yourself), 500KiB/s is an excellent speed, but that's coming from someone who has a 625KiB/s max download speed... ;P

  3. The choice is yours to make, and in the end, if you can bear with the added tax on your computer (regardless of whether you feel the difference), then you're not really losing that much. Azureus is an excellent client, just like µTorrent.

Watch out for Microsoft (if you're using Windows) or Apple (if you're using Mac) ;P

  4. Hm... open source... Windows... interesting.

Anyway, Azureus is a good client, so all you lose is a massive amount of resources, but since you don't seem to notice that side-effect, it doesn't really matter in your case (I guess).

  5. @Firon: Heh can't say I didn't see that coming already... though I have a feeling he might come back on another IP (on another username he probably already signed up under). I'm not going to name it, but I'll leave it at that, since I'm not too sure if my hunch is correct.

  6. Seems like he's doing that to try to prove his "point," which, if that's really the case, isn't getting doing much other than annoy people, more so than the adding and deleting from posts that he's complaining about. Chalk another tally up for reasons not to multi post.

  7. This post was originally addressed to jult, but his posts got deleted... now it seems like a double-post, but whatever, it wasn't originally xP

    --------------------

In the end, just because you think it's fine to do something doesn't necessarily mean you should be allowed to do it. The rules say no double or multi posting, so how about following it? Double or multi posting means posting consecutively, and not necessarily posting the same thing as it you seem to think. Once again, you may have better hardware (database servers in this case), but have you not realized that these forums are constantly under huge stress? Meaning the database has to be kept as optimized as possible, and multi posting doesn't help the matter at all, no matter how much or how little it affects the database size.

Edit: I never said there was anything wrong with installing .NET... And I'm not sure how installing .NET would save anyone memory use and/or CPU load. In fact, .NET applications generally take more resources than native Win32 applications =T

  8. I tried switching to 7-zip, but its compression speed was too slow for the little benefit in ratio that it provided over WinRAR. Its GUI and shell integration annoys me a little... It just can't compare with WinRAR's, but it's getting there (WinRAR can detect which .exe file can be unpacked, while 7-zip doesn't bother trying to detect, and shows the Extract thing it for any file you right-click).

CDBurnerXP... doesn't it need the .NET Framework now? Kinda annoying, but I don't know. Its GUI looks alright, but some things can be improved, like the random bolding of certain interface elements.

Notepad++ is based on Scintilla, which I'm annoyed by, since it has some quirks...

    jEdit... Java... bleh xD

VLC didn't work well on some videos I played before, so I stopped using it.

Most of these applications have real potential, though, so I've been watching them for a while now.

  9. DaBlade was obviously a µTorrent hater to begin with, so I'm not surprised with his reaction. I guess he doesn't understand what easter eggs are. Oh wait, if he loves Linux so much, maybe he should just ignore anything Windows, including µTorrent...

  10. @GUYNEWBIE:

As for the people asking "why did ludde lie about knowing and blah blah," let me explain.

He didn't really lie about not knowing, he only knew about PeerFactor SARL, he didn't know about the PeerFactor you're all talking about. He knew that PeerFactor SARL had been apparently involved in anti-p2p before. What he did not know was that they were the former PeerFactor that was with RetSpan. This former PeerFactor broke apart and made a new pro-P2P company called PeerFactor SARL, which is the company ludde is dealing with.

So, again, he's dealing with a company that's not anti-P2P (anymore).

  11. I'm not too surpried about the people's responses on the PhoenixLabs forums. They are using PG in the first place for a reason... aka to try and clear that nagging fear of getting caught. Anything minor happens and they crusade against it, usually blindly.

  12. In my opinion, it should be left on by default. It'll help P2P along (for a very small increase in resource usage anyway). But that's not the final word you're looking for, and there probably won't be any final words (otherwise, there wouldn't be an option =P).
