  1. I see the µ. Do you? :D

    Heh heh...

Surprisingly, I did some more stuff with the shuffle.

Something funny occurred to me while I was playing with it... the long crossed arrows are supposed to look kinda like µ, for the µTorrent client, and the short arrow should look like T, for torrent. This is why I originally had the µ green and the T blue. But when you really look at the picture, it's just the opposite: The long arrows represent the flowing torrent data, while the short arrow is the µTorrent client. The imagery isn't self-consistent... ^_^'

But anyway, I decided to swap the colors so that the "starting" arrow is green, and the flowing torrent data is blue. Seems to make more sense that way.

The flat version kinda loses the µ and T appearance, but I'll just toss it on the pile anyway. (It's actually not the base image I use for the tilted version, btw)

  2. I guess you're asking people to create totally new imagery, like Azureus did with the poison dart frog (gosh knows where that came from... looks nice though). Ok, fair enough a suggestion :)

OT, but the scientific name for the poison dart frog is Dendrobates azureus, and as far as I know that's where the name for the program came from.

Ahh, that would explain it :) OTOH, this leaves µTorrent with... the µ :P

  3. What I'm trying to point out is that, we don't necessarily need a µ in a circle, or square. Lose the µ even. For example, I remember azureus used this purple box with an A in it in the old versions, they have now migrated to somewhat more of a "brand"- the blue spotted frog. Like Firefox doesn't USE a F in a orange circle. Nor does Winamp use a W in a square.

One of the earlier Firefox logos (IIRC in the late "Firebird" days) was in fact a shiny F against a globe :P

Besides, the name "Firefox" very readily lends itself to imagery. µTorrent mostly just gives you smallness, simplicity, and the µ symbol to work with.

  4. A logo, people. Not an icon! We're looking for something that will instantly be recognized, like azureus' blue spotted frog (:P), firefox's orange fox around globe, winamp's lightning strike thing, foobar 2000's scary alien-cat, etc. Come on, even mirc has something nicer than a µ in a green circle :(

But all the examples you're citing basically are icons :P Either way, I like the four-box Simple icon :)
