john.chen Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 A few years ago we launched BitTorrent/µTorrent Web, which became amongst the world’s most popular torrent streaming apps. Following our vision to offer simple, decentralized tools for the browser, we are pleased to launch µTorrent Lite. Available at https://www.utorrent.com/lite/, our new torrent streaming site allows you to play torrents on PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, iPads, Android devices and more. Without a torrent client or related applications, you can open torrent files to stream on Chrome, Edge, and Safari. Streaming is made available by using elements of WebTorrent, an open-source protocol and technology that powers a decentralized browser-to-browser network for transferring large files. When a .torrent file or a magnet link is leveraged with µTorrent Lite, it accesses torrents seeded by the community and assembles each piece of the file so the torrent can be streamed from your browser’s memory. Unlike our popular Web-based BitTorrent and µTorrent clients, no files are downloaded to your hard drive when you stream torrents using µTorrent Lite. To get started, first you will need to find a .torrent file or a torrent magnet link for the playable media that you are looking for. From there, you can leverage https://www.utorrent.com/lite/ to play it. To begin, simply follow these steps: Step 1: Launch Chrome, Edge or Safari browser and go to https://www.utorrent.com/lite/. Step 2: Locate the .torrent file or the torrent magnet link for the playable media that you are looking for. You can begin a search from https://www.utorrent.com/lite/ by entering your search terms and Google will help you find sources (websites) that host the .torrent file or the magnet link. Below are some helpful tips on what to do next once you have found a torrent: For .torrent files Go to https://www.utorrent.com/licensed-samples/ and locate the .torrent file for Sintel (licensed as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0). Click to download the .torrent file and save to your Downloads folder or your Desktop. Next, just drag the torrent file and drop it into https://www.utorrent.com/lite/. If you are on an iPad, tap the torrent file and then tap ‘Download’ to save the torrent file to the Files folder on your device. Next, navigate to https://www.utorrent.com/lite/ and tap on ‘Upload a torrent file’, then tap ‘Choose Files’ and select the .torrent file that is in your Files folder. For torrent magnet links Go to https://www.utorrent.com/licensed-samples and locate the torrent magnet link for Sintel (licensed as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0). Click the icon to copy the magnet link to your clipboard, then paste it into https://www.utorrent.com/lite/ (Ctrl+V on Windows, or Command-V on Mac). If you are using an iPad, tap and hold the magnet link to copy it to your clipboard. Next, go to https://www.utorrent.com/lite/ and tap into the open field to paste the magnet link, then tap ‘Go’. Step 3: Accept the Terms of Service. Step 4: Stream the torrent and enjoy! Note that while µTorrent Lite finds peers (seeders) for your torrent, it may take a few seconds up to a few minutes to begin streaming the file. As our new torrent streaming website is in early release, we would love your feedback. Please let us know what you think about the product by leaving your comments here. We value your feedback and hope you enjoy the easiest way to open torrent files to play inside your browser! Quote
