cooly
Hey new to this stuff but know a bit.Used to get a green light and perfect speeds with my 1mb connection for years but recently had to change ISPs to PIPEX and had to change my modem to a LINKSYS ADSL2MUE, also I use ZoneAlarm as my firewall/anti virus software. Started getting a yellow/red light and don't know what to do..I have read through all the guides on almost every site and still can't sort it, Tried uninstalling the firewall etc and I know it isn't that, nothing to do with my firewall, dunno if it has anything to do with my ISP.. everything is about opening ports but I don't own a router as this is just a single PC - plus I just can't open ports through the admin for my modem. I allways get the "Error! Port 32091 does not appear to be open" with whatever port I try. This is so annoying as I have had no problems in the past :[And the reason I changed my modem, ISP etc is because my internet disconnects 4 times a day for the last 5 years but thats another problem that I won't stress you people with xD!Any help will be appreciated./C
Ultima
Your modem has NAT capability. You might want to find out if you can forward your ports on it...
cooly
How would I go about doing that? tried upgrading the firmware but it didn't work and there is no file to download o_o ;
Ultima
Start > Run > cmd /k ipconfigVisit http://DEFAULT_GATEWAY_IP_ADDRESS in your browser (where DEFAULT_GATEWAY_IP_ADDRESS is the corresponding IP you find in ipconfig). From there, look around, and try reading some of the guides at portforward.com for other Linksys routers, you'll get the general feel of port forwarding from that. cooly
Thanks for the quick reply but i've checked everything in the admin panel and messed about there and still no luck - there just doesn't seem to be any way to enter ports with this modem that I know of..If you have any other ideas please share!/C

cooly
I'm following that guide but where I put "cli> enable" it asks me for a password which I don't know - tried all the default passwords (admin etc) but it won't let me log in, any ideas why? cooly
Actually forget about the login stuff - I upgraded the firmware and i'm just sorting that out now, using portforward.com but there is no guide to my ADSL2MUE modem on how to open ports and i'm finding it difficult to finish this.http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8827/portsik8.jpgThats the point i'm up to - not too sure what to put in "Destination port map" or "Source Netmask" Any tips on what to do at this point? thanks for all the help up to now Ultima btw. Ultima
Make all the port stuff the same number. Set the destination IP to the static IP you should have set up.
cooly
Followed your steps and tweaked for hours with the new software but still getting the Red light and error message, this is my problem - I've set up a static IP address and have followed the guide on portforward.com completely but it's still reading a different IP address: http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/9836/staticfm1.jpgThis is how I set this up with my port forwarding page, following the guide and checking the settings over: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8297/static2ep4.jpgEven though I have supposedly set up a static IP it still says "dynamic" in the settings page: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/7581/static3jg9.jpgAny ideas why it's doing this? I'm not on a LAN because I just have a single computer..-BTW i'm connecting to the Linksys Modem with a USB cable and not ethernet now to see if it has any effect, and it doesn't :[/C
Ultima
Your external IP address is NOT your LAN IP address.http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
cooly
Thats the guide I followed but it still brings up the error to do with opening the port.I do have the option to turn off the firewall/NAT in the admin page if so, which one should I disable if any? as I have a seperate firewall that i'm using anyway
cooly
Changed my modem, green light and perfect speeds - the problem was obviously with the LINKSYS ADSL2MUE modem/router! misleading since I wasn't after a router.Wrote a bad review on it at amazon.co.uk, thanks for all your help & patience Ultima - maybe people can learn from this about the modem as I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem./C
