StuStrings
I have been to the FAQ and this header pinpoints my prob "Error: Access Denied" / "Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" however none of the suggestions seemed to do the trick. I have no google/msn desktop, i tried uninstalling my AVG, turning off my windows firewall. I wasnt sure how to check if the files were set to read only. However i managed one download today, but all others there after posed this problem. Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Ultima
Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, File > SaveCopy and paste the process list in the .txt file that you save from there.
StuStrings
thanks for getting back, i got as far as the first line of your advice, all set up and running, however this is where i throw my hands up as a layman as i dont quite understand what the second line requires me to do. I'll admit i havent a clue how to use this new software. Sorry for the ignorance.
Ultima
After you save the process list (the File > Save part in the first line), open the file in a text editor and paste it here. Um, one more thing... do that whole save-the-process-list thing immediately after you get the error next time.

Ultima
My guess? Roxio being stupid. It probably has some kind of media library, and includes an indexing service that scans all files for modification, which conflicts with µTorrent not unlike how the other desktop search applications conflicted. StuStrings
Nail on the head, it was roxio, fixed it by disabling its start-up settings, no problems since. It must be the new roxio 9, the last one didnt have this problem. Feel free to stick that culprit in the FAQ, as a friend of mine just had the same prob. Many thanks. Gamesh
I want to add something, a suggestion for Ultima, there is a software called unlockerhttp://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/it is kind'a created for this type of problem when the file is being used by and application and you don't know wich is using the file. this app shows you the progam wich uses the file and even can unlock the file. it also comes in handy when deleting or moving something. I hope this helps, and you won't have to gues next time
Ultima
Process Explorer can actually check what files are being locked by what process as well, but yeah, I know about Unlocker already
inorbit
Hi, I seem to be having the same problem. I don't have Roxio so I'm not sure what it could be, I turned off AVG and Zone alarm but that made no difference.Heres my process list if someone can see whats going wrong would be great.Process PID CPU Description Company NameSystem Idle Process 0 90.71 Interrupts n/a Hardware Interrupts DPCs n/a 1.43 Deferred Procedure Calls System 4 smss.exe 944 Windows NT Session Manager Microsoft Corporation csrss.exe 992 Client Server Runtime Process Microsoft Corporation winlogon.exe 1016 Windows NT Logon Application Microsoft Corporation services.exe 1084 0.71 Services and Controller app Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1264 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation wmiprvse.exe 2428 WMI Microsoft Corporation ehmsas.exe 2608 Media Center Media Status Aggregator Service Microsoft Corporation igfxsrvc.exe 3216 igfxsrvc Module Intel Corporation Dot1XCfg.exe 3744 Intel 802.1x Server Intel Corporation svchost.exe 1332 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1372 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation EvtEng.exe 1424 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Event Log Intel Corporation S24EvMon.exe 1464 Wireless Management Service Intel Corporation WLKEEPER.exe 1532 WLANKEEPER Intel® Corporation svchost.exe 1680 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation svchost.exe 1728 Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Microsoft Corporation spoolsv.exe 784 Spooler SubSystem App Microsoft Corporation avgamsvr.exe 884 AVG Alert Manager GRISOFT, s.r.o. avgupsvc.exe 1660 AVG Update Service GRISOFT, s.r.o. avgemc.exe 1716 AVG E-Mail Scanner GRISOFT, s.r.o. ehrecvr.exe 1772 Media Center Receiver Service Microsoft Corporation ehSched.exe 1792 Media Center Scheduler Service Microsoft Corporation NicConfigSvc.exe 2024 Internal Network Card Power Management Service Dell Inc. Ultima
Ehm... Find the last directory in the path to the torrent contents for the torrent job that's having a problem, press Ctrl+F in Process Explorer, and type the directory in, Search, and see if there are any other processes besides µTorrent using the directory. If so, list them. For example, if the path for the problem torrent is C:\downloads\hello\world.zip, then look for hello. If the path is C:\downloads\hello, then it'd be hello you're looking for as well. Anyhow, the type you're looking for is a Handle.
