asdfasdf Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Until today, I have been using uTorrent version 1.5 for a while, and never bothered to upgrade. The light was always green and I never had any problems.Today I decided to download 1.6. Not only did my virus program say "VIRUS FOUND" when I opened the installation program, but once installed, I noticed a red circle. I figured I needed to reenter my port in the speed settings. I did, then tried a test. I couldn't get the port to successfully forward, and I tried several ports.I then thought I figured it out again. I have one of those Linksys WRT54GS models. Unfortunately, upon checking the version at the bottom of the router, I apparently have version 5, so this doesn't even apply. Now I'm completely lost. What do I do from here?Another interesting note: When trying the port test again through 1.5, it worked. Why does an older version of the program recognize the port being forwarded and the newer version not?
Ultima Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Regarding the "virus"... http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=17246Regarding port forwarding... remove the rule for µTorrent from your firewall and readd it.
asdfasdf Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 Okay, I understand the "virus."But the firewall can't be the problem. When trying to get this working earlier, I turned off my firewall and it had no effect. I tried what you said anyway, this still won't work.
Ultima Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Another interesting note: When trying the port test again through 1.5, it worked. Why does an older version of the program recognize the port being forwarded and the newer version not? This tells me otherwise -- the problem has to be a firewall issue =T What firewall are you using? Have you tried uninstalling it (temporarily, enable Windows Firewall if you're worried about your security) to see if µTorrent continues to report the port as unforwarded? Also, just to be sure, disable UPnP in µTorrent.
asdfasdf Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 I've been using Zonealarm. I just uninstalled and tried again to no avail. UPnP is already disabled. There's nothing more I can do to fix this. I've never had a problem until I "updated" (I guess it's more of a downgrade) to 1.6. Is 1.5 still available for download?Unless there's some error I'm missing in these screenshots, there is no problem.
Ultima Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Try enabling the firewall exceptions thing.
asdfasdf Posted December 8, 2006 Author Report Posted December 8, 2006 The what? Can you be more specific?Even if I did, I'm 100% positive this has nothing to do with the firewall. What other possibilities are there?
asdfasdf Posted December 8, 2006 Author Report Posted December 8, 2006 My Windows Firewall is off and has always been off. Checking that doesn't help either. There's got to be something wrong.
asdfasdf Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 Have I stumped everyone?I tested Azureus (which I dislike; I'd much rather use uTorrent), and I have no NAT problems there. Why is it only with this program?
Ultima Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 For one thing, your static IP address should be set OUTSIDE of the DHCP range in the router. Port forwarding could possibly be affected by that.
asdfasdf Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 I apologize, but I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Ultima Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 Look around in your router's configuration. You should see some DHCP settings. It should tell you the start of the range, and the number of IPs in the range. Set your statc IP to an IP outside of the highest number in the range. So if the start of the range is at 192.168.1.1, and the range is 50 IPs wide, then you should set your static IP address to higher than 192.168.1.50 (and naturally, forward to that IP).
asdfasdf Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 Is this what you're talking about? This means I should forward to an IP higher than 192.168.1.150? I've tried several, this still isn't working.I'm not gonna give up with this considering I've been using it for many months with no problem.
Lucky75 Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Generally they start with 100 - 150. I like to set mine to 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3
asdfasdf Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 Hmm,I got tired of messing with the ports and instead enabled UPnP (which wasn't working before), and got a red circle as usual. Then, 5 minutes later, it turned green. Strange...Does this mean I don't have to bother with the ports?
Lucky75 Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 upnp isn't perfect. I would stay away from it if I were you...
Ultima Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Indeed, but if he's really having a difficult time with forwarding the ports manually, then sticking to UPnP might be his only ticket.
asdfasdf Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 "upnp isn't perfect. I would stay away from it if I were you..."How is it not perfect exactly? Is that why my green light just now turned to yellow? This is becoming a real pain. I thought I could finally end it, but I guess not. The port forwarding will simply not work, I followed that setup page from start to finish.
moreins Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 hello to everyoneim having exactly the same problem...port is being forwarded correctly but utorrent doesnt seed at all...i have no firewall installed at the moment so theres no way that can be causing this problem...ill leave you here a screenshot so u can understand better my issueid appreciate any help
Lucky75 Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 upnp doesn't work all the time. It is the equivalent of being in beta testing, except that no one is really improving it
