funtuva Posted November 29, 2005 Author Report Share Posted November 29, 2005 Yes, Telefonica is known to do traffic shapping to avoid competition in the VoiP front, and because they are used to be the kings. This company used to be the phone monopoly in Spain for 50+ years until recently other companies where allowed to come in. However Telefonica owns all the physical phone lines and wiring (except the newest optic fiber put in the last 5 years). Now the face serious competition with many ISP going to other companies that offer deals such as 20mbit ADSL plus all voice calls you can make for $25 a month. So they own a lot of the gateways and big nodes and they shape things up with their very very good telecom engineers (the same ones that are going all over South America where Telefonica owns also 90% of the comm business).Just a little bit of background... is a miracle our little torrent bits still get through, but there always will bre cracks in the system we will be able to use.
