ICMP requests from many IP addresses ?

Hi folks ,

Wonder if anyone can help me out ---I use Demonoid (which as I write is having a DDOS attack) --I am still running Utorrent (with all files from Demonoid tracker) --I also ran Wireshark and found many ICMP requests from hundreds of IP addresses to my LAN IP (they were all being filtered) --anyone know why this would be? Does utorrent use this to check for peers being alive (TTL) ?
