Pieces downloaded?

Does the Web UI expose the pieces downloaded?

I am interested whether it is possible to detect, for example, if the first part of a download is complete and start up something to "preview" it.

Also, if there is a definitive document or post that describes the API, can someone point me to it?

As for exposing data about pieces, no, it isn't possible with the API as is.
