What figures to insert in the preferences - BitTorrent settings

On a Mac with uTorrent version 1.7.12:

I have had trouble completing a download in excess of 1.2 GB - it kept slowing to a crawl after 1 GB, so I tried altering the data in the Preferences - BitTottent boxes:

What should the Connections Global limit & Per torrent limit be? And for Quesues - what should the active transfers limits and downloads limits be?

Should bandwidth be auto managed?
