Sudden drop in download speed

When I start downloads, they seem to begin pretty well quickly notching upto 700kbps and moving onwards to 1.1 Mbps ~ 2 Mbps. However, recently when I opened the client window again, speeds were as low as 35 kbps. I tried using the 'force start' feautre but it didn't help. If I stop the torrent and then download again, the cycle repeats itself.

I did not make any changes to the user settings except that I increased the disk cache to 1700 mb. I did that because I was getting a 'disk overload' error and this was one of the solutions suggested in the forums.

I read somewhere this is a problem with the latest client, if I uninstall and revert to an older version, would it help?
