can only download magnet

Hi

can anyone help me earlier today i was downloading fine IE: when i clicked on the torrent to download a window would open showing me what files i would be downloading and giving me the option to cancel but all of a sudden that changed

now when i click on it to download it opens the folder i would keep my downloads in and would only download the 'tag'(.torrent file?) and not what i wanted (movie mp3 etc)

ive been downloading for a while and any problems ive had it would be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling an older version thats what i did here i use vista and installed version.  3.3.2.30446

at the moment i can download magnets only and from a certain site i use for tv programmes but im misssing out on so much

any help would be appreciated
