Windows 2000 + uTorrent 2.0.1 interface transparency issue

Hi.

Not a serious bug, only visual glitch.

Under Windows 2000 aplha channel of 32 bit BMP (decoring toolbar, tabs, torrent status) is ignored, thus they lack transparency.

With 24 bit BMP magenta color is used to mark transparent areas, and it works. But when the toolbar button is inactive and shadowed, then magenta color is shadowed too, no more being considered transparent.

We're not fixing it.

Incidentally, this same issue applies to Windows Home Server (over Remote Desktop, at least), which is much newer than Windows 2000. Looks pretty crappy.

so is there a hack to this if it's not being fixed? replace some files with older ones? (just guessing)

We'll have to get a WHS box setup somewhere to see if we can reproduce it, though it might have something to do with reduced color channels on RDP. Does it persist on 24bit color mode?

well if screenshots would help i can do them and send wherever you want (i got win2000 server)

Why is it not possible to fix ?

This is a regression made in the last version (2.0.0 -> 2.0.1)

Because the # of users on Windows 2000 is incredibly low and it's not worth the effort to fix a minor UI bug.

then perhaps it's possible to release 2.0.2 with ui of the 2.0 version (it was ok and frankly i don't see why you had to change it in 2.0.1)

yes i get that win2k is kind of obsolete, but if you claim that your new versions still support it - well i think it's worth kinda fix, isn't it? )

I have uploaded a skin that fixes the glitch:

Only toolbar and tab icons, no status icons yet, sorry.

It fits the 'classic' & 'standard' themes of Win2k.

If you use another theme, paint the background to fit your needs using paint.exe

Not as sparkly as the real thing, but at least look-upon-able.

UPD - ok

now i can do whatever i want myself!

it's really easy and takes like 30 sec to do with minimal knowledge of mspaint )

just use color picker (pipette) to select your background color to match the one you get in your OS

then just paint-bucket it onto gray in Vandan's tollbars - you can have any color (not gray only like in standart win2k theme)

that's what i did for my rainy-day kind of grey-violet background

it matches perfectly and loooks really nice )

can do this for you if you send in your screenshot in bmp (link to it preferably)

That is more like a hack than like a fix.

And given method is kinda bothersome. Some of skins from skin section are hard to repaint, because "under" the alpha-layer they have no solid color background. For example high-rated Vista.revamp toolbar skin by savaden.

Though while uTorrent works properly i don't really care for how good it looks.

Yes, it happens in every color mode (except in 256 color, it shows as cyan rather than purple).

I wish I could give you access to my WHS but I can't even manage to access it from outside my firewall.
