  1. @bhvm: this program allows you to control uTorrent that resides on a computer via uTorrent Webui from a cell phone.

@mr sharpoblunto: can you please check out my reply on the previous page and see if you can help me out with the problem once and for all.. I really appreciate your help up until now, but I still have not resolved anything.

    Thanks!! :)

  2. @Wolfgan: I just tried installing the jad/jar locally and got the same error ??? wtf

@mr. sharpoblunto: do you have a copy of the jad file from v1.4 ? I was reading up about the 907 error and it said there could be missing information or incorrect parameters in the JAD file. When I was replacing the old jad file with the new one i downloaded and noticed it was larger than the new one. Before I realized I had already replaced the jad file.

  3. As far as I know I cannot install jar files locally on a blackberry. The alternative is making .cod/.alx files, which are file formats of applications that are use specifically for blackberry's in the Blackberry Desktop Manager. I don't know if there's an easy way to convert jar/jad to cod/alx, but maybe you can look into it (i'll do the same).

  4. two things:

    1) I just tried installing v1.52 and i got the same error as above. (907 invalid jar)

    2) I have logging for webui enabled and when I try to connect using mobile client, nothing gets logged. So I don't know. I've never used wireshark before, but i'll give it a try.

any other ideas in the meantime?

  5. although it's disabled, there is also a "NaN" value in the Guest account username field. So I just assumed it was a default value (for whatever reason). S I just figured it should be there. Like you said, something else must have screwed with it.

EDIT: Although I do remember reading something in a thread about webui on this or another forum about a guy who said "NaN" kept automatically being entered in one or more of the webui preferences fields. Maybe it was the old version of uTorrent ??? Regardless, I've upgraded. (and the torrent site I go to still works, even though the FAQs specifically say only up to v1.6.1 is supported)

EDIT 2: Ah... see I knew I wasn't going crazy:

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=362425#p362425 (this thread)... post #148.. and post #149 says (and I quote):

I found the problem and it'll be fixed in the forthcoming version. If you/someone else see(s) other "NaN" fields please let us know.

I guess I should have read more, but it was something to do with webui. I was using the legacy version before and I guess it kept the settings even after upgrading.

But yes, it's all working now. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot.

  6. hey sharpoblunto... it's been a while but I'm persistent. I'm having two problems now.

    1) I still cannot connect to my utorrent via the mobile client (annoying)

    2) I cannot download the latest version of the mobile client. It detects the jar, detects all the title, author and version number and it seems to start installing the app on my BB Pearl. It gets to the end of the progress bar (looks like 100%) then it thinks for a bit and pops up this error:

    907 Invalid Jar

illegal host string: starts with '/'

Now regarding my frist problem -- not being able to connect...

    @atomicrabbit

Could you try entering the following url into the browser on your phone http://<ipAddress>:<port>/gui/?list=1 and send me the output from that. The particular error you're seeing is one I haven't seen before, but if the output from this url is weird it may shed some light on things.

I responded to your message but you never followed up. Enter that URL gives me a list of the items I have in uTorrent... like this:

    {"build":11813,"label": [

    ]

    ,"torrents": [

    ["A53B9E9A273461DFF8A7E8C4FECF4A13F47FB694",136,"torrent name 1",xxxxxxxx,xxxx,xxxxxxxx,xxxxxx,xx,0,0,0,"",0,0,0,0,65536,-1,0],

    ["62CD4A787224F94F5AC53D957DF4CCDA077888B8",201,"torrent name 2",xxxxxxxxxx,xxx,xxxxxxxxxx,xxxxxxxxx,xxx,0,12,-1,"",1,4,0,0,64946,1,888586240],

    ["5A7E77CF2A5F88533D2DC02A5A8BCFB02DA58E9B",136,"torrent name 3",xxxxxxxxx,xxxx,xxxxxxxxx,xxxxxxxx,xx,0,0,0,"",0,0,0,0,65536,-1,0]]

    ,"torrentc": "1783487479"}

I x'ed out those number bc I have no idea if they are important or not.

Btw, I'm using uTorrent v1.8 Build 11813 with the latest webui and I'm using mobile client v1.4 because I cannot download the latest version (1.51) because of the error I explained above.

    please help!

Also, for the record, the error I receive in mobile client is:

    Server not found

Make sure the IP and port settings are corrent

    Details:

    java.io.EOFException null

Note: Yes, it says corrent with a 'n'.

I can access webui no problem from anywhere.

  7. @ultima: the "Restrict access to the following IPs" option is set to NaN

    @jewelisheaven: all of 'em.....IE 5, 5.5, 6 & 7, Firefox 2 & 3, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera...

My Windows Firewall is disabled and I'm running Comodo Firewall, which is the only other thing I can think of that MAY be blocking access, but utorrent has full access rights, AND if I exit out of Comodo and try the webui, it still gives me the "invalid request".

On top of that, if Comodo actually was blocking access, then I technically shouldn't have even gotten the "invalid request" error, it just shouldn't have loaded anything at all. To further emphasize that fact, comodo wouldn't block access from localhost or 127.0.0.1, only if I was accessing it from the external IP.

  8. Maybe it's time to change your fav tracker...

That's besides the point of my original post... read below:

Also, I just downloaded the latest version of uTorrent and the latest version of webui and I'm still getting "invalid request"... so any ideas now?
  9. one of my main reasons is that one of my main (private) torrent sites that I use only allows utorrent up to 1.6.1 (they won't say why). what is the oldest version that webui supports?

Also, I just downloaded the latest version of uTorrent and the latest version of webui and I'm still getting "invalid request"... so any ideas now?

  10. Could you try entering the following url into the browser on your phone http://<ipAddress>:<port>/gui/?list=1 and send me the output from that. The particular error you're seeing is one I haven't seen before, but if the output from this url is weird it may shed some light on things.

    @sharpoblunto:

Sorry for the late reply. It seems to list all my torrents' information in a comma separated continuous list. I'm still getting the error in utorrent mobile though.

  11. Hey sharpoblunto

Thanks for adding the detailed errors in the new version.

I installed it and I still cannot connect. Here is the error:

    Server not found

Make sure the IP and port settings are correct

    Details:

    Java.io.EOFException null

Btw. I'm using a dynamic DNS address and yes, it is the right IP and utorrent is running

  12. What I might do is put together a build which has a 'View detail' option on the error screen which could show a stacktrace or something, just to try and help diagnose whats going wrong.

hey sharpoblunto, did you get around to making the new build with the View Detail option?

  13. What I might do is put together a build which has a 'View detail' option on the error screen which could show a stacktrace or something, just to try and help diagnose whats going wrong.

That would be great! Because I cannot connect at all anymore.

  14. hey sharpoblunto... I've been trying it off and on and probably since my last post (2008-08-20), I have not been able to successfully connect to my utorrent!

I am able to connect perfectly through the webui, but cannot connect using the mobile client. I just keep getting the following error:

    Server not found.

Make sure the IP and port settings are correct.

A while back, it started working, but that only lasted a few days (I wrote about it I think on pg 2 of this thread)... Now it's back to it's old non-working self.

I recently upgraded to BlackBerry OS 4.5 (last week) and was hoping it would work after upgrading, but it didn't!

Please help. I know that a couple other users were encountering this problem, so it's not an isolated issue.

  15. thanks... I was able to download and install it now. btw... I still get the Server not found error intermittently. Currently I cannot connect. I couldn't connect before upgrading either. I just figured it would go away on it's own like the last time I had the problem.

  16. What I meant to say with the last post was that it wasn't possible without significant changes to the structure of the app, which means it wouldn't be done for a while :)

in that case, no worries! How about just making a blank screen with the name of the app and static "Loading. Please wait..." text before the http requests are initiated, just so the user knows it's doing something. Does that require a lot of reprogramming?

  17. sir sharpoblunto...

wow... I'm just about to download and install the client. Your work is much appreciated. I'll leave you some feedback once I try it out.

    ----EDIT START:

just downloaded the new version. IMPORTANT: I SENT YOU AN EMAIL, read it!

First, nice updates... the icon looks great -- nice and crisp :D !! The viewing and downloading of individual files looks and works great too. One more suggestion... tracker info... I guess you can put it on the torrent info page at the bottom. Just the tracker URL and maybe tracker status would be nice, but you probably don't want to clutter the interface. Maybe a line to divide the tracker info would clean it up a bit. You decide. Again... awesome work! I love that it's simple and easy to view and navigate through the UI. thanks for the hard work!

    ----EDIT END

Now... regarding the loading screen, I'm fairly skilled at programming, although I've never dabbled into java programming. I know that in VB there is a DoEvents command which processes the code so that it doesn't freeze up the interface. Normally, you would use DoEvents within a loop, so for example (pseudo-code):

    for X = 0 to 10
    http request X
    DoEvents
    next X

Basically, that would sort of update the interface. Essentially you would use that sort of code to update a progress bar, so after the "http request x" line, you would update the value of a progress bar (i.e., progressbar = 25), and the DoEvents would update it graphically.

Again, I have no idea how to program Java, nor do I know how your code makes the http requests, so what I'm saying could but utterly useless. I notices that you said "all the http requests the client makes are synchronous". I'm not sure if there are multiple http requests made at startup, but if so, and if they are in a loop of some sorts, maybe you could use a DoEvents equivalent (if one exists) within that loop (if you use one).... lol.. that's a lot of 'ifs'

Anyhow... I don't mean to rain on your parade, just trying to brainstorm... Regardless, I found this: DoEvents equivalent in Java -- I don't know if it will mean anything to you, or if your code would even allow you to implement an idea like this, but check it out.

  18. whether it's the case or not... this torrent site I use does not allow v1.7+. They also said there were other issues with utorrent 1.7+ which they did not specify, but they said they are continuously testing 1.7 and 1.8. I am not agreeing with them, but there's nothing I can do.

  19. i'm using 1.6.1 because one of the torrent sites I use does not allow v1.7+ because "it doesn't report back to their tracker properly" apparently. Believe me, I want to upgrade, but they won't add v1.7+ to their allow list.

Regardless, that's not why the mobile client wasn't working... it is compatible with 1.6.1+.. so it shouldn't make a diff.

  20. Ok this is really weird. I just tried the mobile client once more and it's working ??

Just for the record, I'm using:

    Computer:

    Windows XP Pro SP3

    uTorrent v1.6.1

    webUI v0.315

    Phone:

    BlackBerry Pearl 8130

One minute it worked, the next it wouldn't connect. Now (as of 2 minutes ago) it can connect again. I made no changes to my firewall settings and no changes to the mobile app. I just started it a couple minutes ago and it connected. that's really weird.

Does the mobile client connect directly to my server or does it connect somewhere else first? I know the uTorrent mUI required that the connection be sent through their own site (utorrentmui.com) before communicating with your utorrent... does uTorrent Mobile Client work similarly?

Also I have another feature request: Individual file viewing and downloading within a torrent

    is that possible?
