I've had a lot of problems using both my WRT54GX and my WRT54G with DD-WRT installed. Both routers had problems with the speed and sometimes my PC almost died. I found an effective cure on my WRT54G with DD-WRT ver 23: Go to the Management tab, and scroll down to IP Filter Settings. Change the Maximum Ports value from the default 512 to 4096 and reduce the time from the default 3600 seconds on the TCP and UDP to 300 seconds each. Save the settings and reboot the router. You can do that on the buttom of the same Management page. It has solved all the problems for me, and tripplede the actual amount of open ports. The result is that uTorrent is running faster than ever on my PC. The change of the setting means that unused/old ports will be dropped after 5 minutes of no activity instead of the default hour, so unless you have more than 4096 connections in under 5 minutes, you won't have a problem.
