RoyalShrubber Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 File Monitor (from sysinternals.com) shows that µTorrent is constantly requesting D3D9.dll file from system32 folder.I don't know why should µtorrent need dll related to directx 9, first I thought it was related to my customized desktop theme, but then every program would be requesting that file + changing theme to classic does not change anything. So why does µTorrent keep requesting the same file over and over?
Firon Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 When viewing the file browser, perhaps something opened that dll?Try restarting µT and see if it does that.
RoyalShrubber Posted July 26, 2006 Author Report Posted July 26, 2006 I've restarted my OS (XP SP2) and downloaded again µTorrent, but nothing changed...Here's how it looks:
Ultima Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Hm... is anything hooked onto µTorrent? Check the DLL pane in Process Explorer when you click on µTorrent, and check the Threads tab in the process Properties window.
ludde Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 It's probably related to some 3rd party program. Utorrent doesn't use direct x.
RoyalShrubber Posted July 26, 2006 Author Report Posted July 26, 2006 True, I just found the reason - ATI Tray Tools (3D tweaking app). It somehow forces µTorrent to do that. I also did some research - ATI TT somehow force running µTorrent in requesting d3d9.dll and after you close TT µTorrent will stop requesting. Also if you kill TT process µT will stop requesting, meaning that probably TT rather forces µT trough some door (I don't know how) than inject code into the process.I don't know if fixing that problem has any point since TT also influences on other apps (but less frequently) and the problem is in TT - but maybe adding it into FAQ to inform others about cause for such unusual behavior wouldn't be bad idea .
Ultima Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 It's more likely hooking than forcing µTorrent through anything -- that's how most other applications that work globally do their stuff.
Nefarious Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 I do use Ati Tray Tools, never had that issue thou... u sure u didnt do anything inside it about utorrent? like creating a profile for it or somethen? it certainly doesnt pick it automatically...
RoyalShrubber Posted July 27, 2006 Author Report Posted July 27, 2006 Nope, nothing specifically with µTorrent, do you have the latest version? From version log:1.0.5.880 Release Candidate (April 17, 2006) (that's the newest)[*] Updated injection code to allow to use custom made (fake) d3d dll files.
