The eyeclops
Ok, here we go. My torrents are never above red or yellow status, my download\upload speed is never > 30kps, and the port forwarding test tells me I didnt forward properly (But I did!) I have forwarded my port (31529) and got a static ip and all that like a good boy. my router is a netgear wgr614 v6, i have frontiernet dsl with speedstream 5200 dsl box, i unchecked upnp in preferences, permitted all acces in norton, and my windows xp firewall is off. I'm confused. Anyone know if i missed anything?
Ultima
Hm, remove the rules and try configuring again?
The eyeclops
Ive just learned that i acn access my dsl box too and forward there. The problem is that i already have a lan ip address from my netgear router! How do i port forward on both? (btw my computer is connected wirelessly)
Ultima
Copy down your PPPoE settings in the modem (if there are any), then try setting the modem to bridge mode.
The eyeclops
That's the problem. it's PPPoA, and there is no bridge mode. From what I understand, thos modem is meant to also be a router, but i need my seperate router because of the wireless.
spork985
okay, you can do "double port forwarding" in the modem, forward the selected port to the ip address of the router. Then in the router, forward the same port to the IP of the computer. Trust me, it works .
Ultima
Works if you know how to set up the router to have a static IP on the modem's subnet.
spork985
I didn't think it was possible to have a router with a dynamic, doesn't the router act as a DHCP?
Ultima
If the modem has DHCP, then the router's going to have a dynamic IP as well.
spork985
When I had mine set up that way, the DHCP of the modem was assigning the WAN port on the router an IP address, the router itself had a different IP, which HAD to be manually set in my case... Ultima
So yeah... by doing that, weren't you setting up the static IP for your router on the modem's subnet?
The eyeclops
OK, ive solved the nat thing. i called frontier and they told me to do this: in the modem's port forwarding thing, set it to the port u need and forward it to your other router, which the modem sees as 192.168.254.1. The port is now open, but i'm still on yellow status and the speed hasnt improved. Edit: oh w8 now im on green, and the speed hasnt improved. but still, GREEN AT LAST! u have no idea how long ive tried to do that.
Ultima
If you can, find a way to set your router's IP to be static as well. And um, have you tested the torrents listed in the setup guide?

The eyeclops
wow how come the open office goes so much faster?
Switeck
There's T-3 and OC-3 and faster lines seeding it 24/7. Most regular torrents, you're connecting to low-end broadband users (with <30 KB/sec upload speed) who think 100+ connections per torrent increases speed. The eyeclops
so then i shouldn't expect more than 30 up\download speed in my torrent?
Ultima
Eh? No... Switeck was just noting that a lot of torrents have peers who have incorrect settings, and that they mess with the speed you *could* be getting if they set up correctly, not that that's all the speed you'll ever be getting.
