tawd Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 Whenever I try to play video (VLC,WMP11, or Winamp) while running utorrent the files skip and halt frequently. Trial and error tells me that it somehow has to be related to utorrent. This doesn't make any sense to me because of utorrent's small footprint. I am running XpSP2 with 256MB pci-e vid/amd 3500/1g memory. This is more than enough. I really can't imagine utorrent causing this problem, but it really seems like the only solution. Utorrent runs, problem exists- turn off utorrent, problem disappears. Has anyone else had this weird experience??
Switeck Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 Are your hard drives running at full speed and in DMA mode?
tawd Posted November 24, 2006 Author Report Posted November 24, 2006 Thanks for your response. It says DMA if available, and DMA mode 6
Ultima Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, File > SaveCopy and paste the process list in the .txt file that you save from there.

Ultima Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Have you tried exiting statbar to see if it helps?
tawd Posted November 25, 2006 Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 I tried exiting statbar and while I was originally typing "thanks, that worked!" the same halting returned and as consistently. It goes so far that typing/backspacing in FF is halted. I know FF has leaks, but I restart it enough to keep it @ or ~ 100mb max. According to statbar (when I was running it, I was at a constant 3-400mb mem usage and 0-10% CPU usage (browsing, Word, etc...)
Ultima Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 =TMy next guess is that it has something to do with Avast, or maybe something you configured in Avast... Can you try uninstalling (yes, uninstalling, not exiting) Avast to test that theory? If you're worried about catching a virus in between, just don't visit any website while you're testing.
Dikkememmen Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Avast and utorrent don't go well together. Had some CPU overload problems. Terminating ONLY the process that gobbled up the cpu resolved the problem. Even just exiting avast, or using its own features to disable some services, did not help.
pinhead Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 man, i'm so glad that i found this thread! Thanks a lot, dikkememmen for the avast info.i was with a problem that the OS was constantly freezing for 2 seconds with utorrent running. Even that was just 2 seconds, it happens each 1 minute or something. It was bothering me a lot. After i closed the P2P protection from avast everything looks fine now. Well, so far. thanks again for the info. BTW, thanks to all utorrent developers for their efforts. I really like this torrent client!
