ratfugel
Having downloaded and installed uTorrent, I find that I am having difficulty in getting a forwarding port. I keep getting the above message no matter how many port numbers I try. I wondered if a Spam stopper (Giant Spam Inspector) could be affecting things. I have tried reinstalling uTorrent etc, but still no dice. Various sites mention using certain port numbers, but none work. Anybody got any ideas so I can get started? Would be most appreciated. Switeck
You could try completely uninstalling the spam stopper program to rule it out as the problem.Do note it MAY be part of the problem, but you may remain firewalled due to other reasons as well!Very often people are firewalled because of multiple things, so removing one or the other doesn't fix it. ratfugel
I tried switching off the Windows firewall. disabled the spamstopper (I had been getting hundreds of offers of Viagra, wonderful bank account changes and all that crap, The Spam Inspector stopped the lot). Still cannot get a working port number. Getting more than a bit frustrated with this, particularly when I observe everbody and his neighbour apparently using uTorrent OK. Switeck
Disabling the Spam Inspector is not the same as uninstalling it. It still leaves DLLs and hooks in the operating system, likely the very things causing you problems.
ratfugel
Thank you for that observation. Problem is, if I take Spam Inspector out completely, I am back to the spam problem. Surely people who are successful with uTorrent operation must be using something similar. At this time, the bulk of eMails seem to be spam based. I'll do it anyway and let you know what happens. Anything is worth a try. One final question. How does one choose a port number?
Switeck
So long as you choose a port above 10000 and below the max of 65535 it should be fine.I don't see how you'd get spam if you're not checking your email while you're testing µTorrent. If you do, then you don't need a spam remover/blocker...you need a better spyware and/or virus remover!
