TRB
Hello, I use uTorrent for many purposes, but recently many have started questioning the safety of p2p. My question is, with encryption forced, am I still at risk while downloading? Will my ISP be able to look at the packets and see file names and whatnot? And if they can, how best can I protect myself against such a thing?
Lord Alderaan
The sole purpose of Encryption is a feeble (= often not successful) attempt to circumvent ISP traffic shaping (aka blocking BitTorrent traffic). When downloading illegal content you are always at risk. It depends on the local copyright laws, privacy laws and the zealousy of law enforcement/digital rights representatives how big a risk you are taking. And there isn't really anything you can do. You can make it difficult by using (foreign) VPN systems but these cost shitloads of money and/or hamper your speed and only makes tracing you more bothersome but not a lot more difficult. If you are scared its best to not download illegally.
