bak3donh1gh Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Ok so i'm getting this error "cyclic redundancy check" and i did some googling and it turns out that its a message my hardrive is telling me that it begginning to fail(which i beyond me because it not even a year old, the error appeared after i turned the thing back on so i have to assume it has something to do with that)so i have spin rite as a disk and i'm wondering if its maintenance option will erase all the data on my external hardrive, because thats what it sound like from "repetedly reading and writing data"(aka what you do to wipe a hardrive entirly clean literrally and figuratively)help much appreciated.
schnurlos Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 You can check your harddisk with http://www.hdtune.com/If there are any errors, buy a new disk and backup your data as soon as possible.
Ultima Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 @bak3donh1gh: From the general tone of the SpinRite FAQ, it doesn't look like it wipes the drive.
Firon Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 I don't think maintenance mode is the one you want to run. You want to run the one for recovery.
