total_nwb
I was wondering if it's possible to add new files or change files in a torrent. I am currently seeding a torrent I created, I think it's possible to add new files to the shared folder and they will automatically be seeded but I'm not sure. The new file is only 10 MB large (just a bunch of pictures and a small video in a rar-file, not porn btw) I've added it to the folder yesterday but it hasn't showed up in the list of files yet.So is it possible to update a torrent or not? And how large do the new files need to be to be recognized by the tracker?
Ultima
Not possible at all; you're gonna have to recreate the .torrent.
5618
You cannot do this. You will have to completely re-create the .torrent file. µTorrent does not support a .torrent file editor, not would this help much if the .torrent file needs to be placed on the tracker first. total_nwb
Ok, so what if I replace files with the same name? For instance: I'm sharing an mp3 called 'mymusic.mp3' if I replace it with a different 'mymusic.mp3' would it start seeding the new version? Thanks for the replies. 5618
The other file would probably not match the file size, plus any piece of it you'd send would fail hash check at the receiving end. So no.
total_nwb
Thanks. I've only got one last question. I was wondering this now: if I stop seeding the old torrent will it be possible to make the current peers switch automatically to downloading the new version (for instance if I give the torrent the same name?) I've got seven peers for it atm and like I said I only want to add a small file.
5618
No. The new .torrent file you create will have a new hash and will therefore be different from the other one for all peers.
total_nwb
Ok, I'll wait for a quiet moment to start seeding the new version then. Thanks for the replies!
