Port Forwarding help needed

Hello everyone and thanks for reading my thread.

I'm trying to port forward my Netgear WPN824 wireless router for uTorrent. I tried to follow the instructions found here

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/WPN82 4/Utorrent.htm

but uTorrent keeps giving me "Error! Port 61111 does not appear to be open." I've just about pulled all of the hair out of my head trying to do this. Its not McAfee because I deactivated it and it still wouldn't work. I had utorrent and my router working w/ port forwarding before a OS reinstall so I know its some settings thats f**ked up and not allowing the port forwarding to work. I just don't know what to do.

I've been working on this for the past 5 hours and I don't feel any closer to resolving this than when I started.

I think I need to start completely over. So if anyone would like to help a person in need and if they have the patience to go through all of the steps with me I would greatly appreciate it.

The links listed below lead to screen shots of my current settings. I hope this help you get an idea of what settings are wrong and how I can fix it. Please give reference to specific pics or as descriptive as possible. I'm a little retarded ;)

Thanks for your help.

T.

OK 1st lets start with your Static IP did you set it as 192.168.1.6 as seen in your 2nd screenshot??If so goto your LAN IP Page in your Router and you need to change the Start & End IP of the DHCP it is NOW taking ALL the ranges so change it to like 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.100 as seen in your 7th screenshot.

Then in your Port Forward Page your 6th screenshot put in the Static IP you assigned 192.168.1.6 then you should be set..

Problem resolved- please see update section below

Nephilim-

The screen shots are of my current settings. I'm totally confused with all of the different IP addresses. It seems like every settings panel has its own IP address. With some having to be the same and others different. But I did follow your directions. I changed the Start & End IP of the DHCP to the numbers you suggested. I also changed my Static IP to 192.168.1.6 but, still no success. My ports are still not forwarded.

Firon-

You suggest to uninstall McAfee which I think might do the trick. Given the fact that uTorrent used to work fine (with its ports forwarded) I have to assume that it has to do with McAfee. I'm going to try to uninstall it and see if that was the problem. If I...

uninstall McAfee

test uTorrent - and find that its ports are forwarded

reinstall McAfee - will the install of McAfee then block the ports????

Nephilim-

I'm currently running McAfee Security Center

Ultima-

McAfee Security Center is protection for virus, spyware, and firewall

I'm going to try and uninstall McAfee and see if that allows the ports to get forwarded. It would explain why no matter what the settings are it won't allow port forwarding.

Please keep an eye on my thread because I haven't resolved the problem yet.

Thanks for your assistance.

*******************UPDATE**********************************************

Thanks to your assistance uTorrent now has its ports forwarded!!!!!!!!!!

The problem was McAfee, and by the looks of things partly me too.

Solution- I got McAfee's control screen up and deactivated its firewall. Before I had uTorrent already running and I would test the port only to find that it was still being blocked. So I then closed uTorrent and started it back up. I tested the port forwarding and it WAS. I followed the steps found here

http://portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/McAfee/McAfeeSecurityCenter/BitTorrentIn.htm

I believe my problem was that after making the changes to the firewall I never closed and restarted uTorrent. I had just left it running and that didn't allow the new firewall setting to take effect. DUMB right? I hope that this information will remain on the internet for awhile so that any poor idiot like myself will save the hours of torture and understand that the problem was with McAfee, not uTorrent or their windows network settings.

thanks for everyones assistance in resolving this matter :) you dudes rock

Tito
