1.8 Takes Several Minutes To Startup

I just upgraded to 1.8 and now it takes 2-3 minutes or more for uTorrent to startup (i.e. before the window shows on the desktop, or the icon on the taskbar, or the icon in the task tray). uTorrent.exe does show in the process list immediately, and isn't using a lot of CPU (around 5%).

Before the upgrade, startup time was just a couple of seconds. Nothing else on the computer has changed other than the uTorrent upgrade. No 3rd-party firewall is installed. AVG antivirus is installed but not running. Windows firewall is turned off. No other programs are running.

This is the first time I've been to this forum, and I don't know whats customary here when reporting a problem, so I really don't know what other info I should provide. I did do a quick scan of other posts and didn't see anything that looked like the same problem.

EDIT:

I guess I didn't look hard enough. I found this thread which has a very similar problem:

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=44145&p=1

But I don't have any drive letters missing that were present before, or that are referenced by any torrents in the torrent list.

I'll try the new version and see what happens.

Post there. along with anything unique about your setup. The instance I reference had a 4 MiB resume.dat with 4200 torrents for example. Posting a Process Explorer DLL list from the bottom of http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 and a HiJackThis log as well would be a good start I think.

Also, look at Process Explorer in both DLL (Ctrl-D) and Handles (Ctrl-H) mode while you open uT ... Btw, I see that build is old now, so I guess you could also try it with 1.8.1 beta

Most of the torrents put the downloaded files on an SMB share on the network. I guess there's something about 1.8 that doesn't work well with that? The .torrents themselves and other uTorrent files (i.e. resume.dat) are under my user's Application Data folder on a local disk.

Process Monitor log? Is that something done with Process Explorer or HijackThis?

or provide me with a resume.dat?

Um, I keep looking at the announcement at the top of the page. The one in blue letters. Ask me again if you'd like me to post the resume.dat, or kindly explain what process log you're looking for.

Assuredly you can sent your personal files to greg@bittorrent.com (alus) yourself. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=350519#p350519 touches on what was asked of others with troubles. You can find Process Monitor (procmon) @ http://sysinternals.com

The log of startup means, open Procmon, start logging (Ctrl-E), open uTorrent.exe, and I'm guessing once the GUI loads, stop logging (I think it's Ctrl-E again) and save the file as .PML format.
