vandan Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 I have noticed that utorrent 1.8.1 build 12639 is sending my local IP address to the tracker in the format &ipv6=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the xxx is my ipv4 local IP address (i.e. the address of my network adapter). I am not using ipv6. Why is it doing this and how can i turn this off?
Ultima Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Why would it even send an IPv4 address in the IPv6 field...? O_o It might be that this is a bug...Do you have IPv6/Teredo installed?
vandan Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 I don't have IPv6/Teredo installed. To check that is wasn't something funny with my current settings I tried it on a virtual machine with a clean XP pro and the default utorrent 1.8 install and the ipv6 part wasn't sent, it was only after updating to 1.8.1 that it started sending the ipv6 part.
Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Can you paste the output of "ipconfig /all" here?

Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 And what IP is it sending to the tracker?
Harold Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Wiresharked. I can confirm this.example: (added line breaks)GET /announce?info_hash=%adOt%d8%13jX%f5%e1%96%3dZ%c0%ec9%2ag2%0c%86&peer_id=-UT1810-H1%82B%f1%a2%972Y%a5%18b&port=40774&uploaded=0&downloaded=0&left=0&corrupt=0&key=64F4DC73&event=started&numwant=200&compact=1&no_peer_id=1&ipv6=192.168.123.139 HTTP/1.1Host: open.tracker.thepiratebay.orgUser-Agent: uTorrent/1810Accept-Encoding: gzipYes, 192.168.123.139 is my local IP
Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Please try this build, and let me know what the Logger tab says when a tracker checkin occurs. You should see "Tracker checkin, ... "http://utorrent.com/utorrent.12640.exe
Harold Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Yup I get this:[2008-10-21 23:46:29] NOTE: Settings file found in directory of executable; using that.[2008-10-21 23:46:30] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:30] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:30] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:30] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:31] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:31] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:31] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)[2008-10-21 23:46:31] Tracker checkin, GetIPv6Address: 192.168.123.139 (assumed v6)

Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Ah! I see. Please confirm this fixes it:http://utorrent.com/utorrent.12642.exe
Harold Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Confirmed. That is, it sends no ipv6 to trackers (probably correct in my situation as I have no ipv6 address)It doesn't log any of these things either - so I wiresharked that
Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Yeah I removed the logging. Thanks for your help!
vandan Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 Thanks for fixing that so quick. I checked and it no longer sends the ipv6 to the tracker.
Greg Hazel Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Btw, this only happens if you do not have IPv6 installed. Click the Install IPv6/Teredo button in Preferences. Why not?
Harold Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Well it doesn't work for me - it says[2008-10-22 02:04:28] Could not install teredo, result was: [There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.]Installing & enabling it manually, however, does work.
