galacticninja
How do I prevent uTorrent from allocating disk space to downloads that haven't started yet and are still in the queue?
thelittlefire
What are your settings for sparse files, pre-allocate, and compact allocation? ... Turn off pre-allocate?You're talking about queued downloads right?
galacticninja
Pre-allocate, sparse files and compact allocation are all set to off/false.Yes, I am talking about queued downloads (that have never been started).
thelittlefire
If they are off no space is being used.
Ultima
The only time space gets allocated is(1) you start a torrent with pre-allocate enabled(2) µTorrent downloads a new file in the torrent (assuming it hasn't already been allocated) while diskio.sparse_files isn't enabled
galacticninja
I see. This is my problem with uTorrent: I have some queued downloads which I haven't started yet but are already taking up disk space. When I open the 'New Downloads' folder (downloads that aren't finished or are still in the queue) and try to see the space occupied by the queued downloads by right click -> properties, Windows shows that some of my queued downloads are already taking up space (both actual size and size occupied on disk), even if I haven't started those downloads yet. A disk-browsing tool I use, SequioaView, also shows that these queued downloads are already taking up space. Will enabling diskio.sparse_files get rid of this problem? Any downsides if I enable this option?
thelittlefire
Uhm, they have already been started if they take up space.Sparse files causes the discrepancy between "actual size" and "size on disk"
